fortyninethousand322 Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 $43,842.08. That's a lot of money, IMO. But maybe it's too low to some people. Hope everyone has been saving...
crude Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 That's slightly misleading, in that the costs are split 2 ways. $43,840.04 paid by the man, $2.04 paid by the woman. 1
ltjg45 Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 Good thing true love is far cheaper than that. I'll be screaming if I had to pay more than 5k to actually secure a marriage with a female.

crude Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 lol she left a partial tip once? She bought the man a drink (a mini Slurpee).
rocketman122 Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 I dont know the exact figure but its very expensive to have a GF. 24 roses that I just bought and dinner left a ding in my wallet. I didnt need someone to tell me this though.

I was always under the impression that rule of thumb was 3 months salary. 5K is a lot less than I was expecting to read. Same goes for the 25K wedding, I was expecting double that.

amaysngrace Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 My oldest son refuses to have a girlfriend until he's done college for this very reason. Why have to buy two dinners when he can buy one or two beers at the bar? He can always get laid. Except sometimes when I ask him if he has a girlfriend he's like "yeah mom, her name's MaryJane" 1

If he wants more, then he should be willing to tell the women he wants her to pay her own way. If a man looks at a woman as a future wife, he'd better get one who doesn't just take, otherwise it'll cost him let's say $25,000/year for life, as in $1,250,000.
kaylan Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 Lol @ all of this. In todays age, theres plenty of women out there who make cash and can foot half the courtship bill. My best friends dating one of them. His girlfriend spent a pretty penny for his bday. Hoepfully I meet a girl like that. 1
Author fortyninethousand322 Posted February 14, 2013 Author Posted February 14, 2013 (edited) Lol @ all of this. Hoepfully I meet a girl like that. This is somewhat of a joke thread. But I found it curious that economists had calculated the "cost of love". It's the type of thing that Tyler Cowen (the author of the blog) would write about. And half of the bill is still north of $20k. That's some money. Edited February 14, 2013 by fortyninethousand322
carhill Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 how much does love cost?Far more than solitude, to be sure 1
