That's where you are wrong. I did. There was nothing missing in my marriage. Just one big disgusting mistake.

"Mistake" interesting" choice" of words.

Has anyone been totally devoted and in love with their spouse but had an unexpected affair whether an old flame or new friend, etc.?

I think your question is entirely different than what your title infers. "Happily married but had an affair anyway"

I believe that married people (MP) can easily become involved in an affair for one reason or another irregardless of whether they are really happy. An example is your job. You can be happy as a pig in poop, but if another better, higher paying job falls into your lap, you will be very likely to jump ship.

However if you are truly, deeply in-love, and not just the kind of made up love that some pretend just to get their way, than I honestly do not believe a MP could/would have an affair. If you have ever truly been in love, you know that no one else of the opposite sex even hardly seems to grab your attention. However, it is my belief that very few MP remain deeply in love as time goes by. I think it occurs mostly because of the daily routines that MP have to live with. It is so easy to become boring and less attractive to your spouse unless you work at it all the time. Usually at this point the love for each other becomes more like the love of a family member. In other words the lust from being deeply in love disappears. At this point even though you both may still be extremely happy, it is not enough to prevent an affair should the opportunity arise.

I think the answer to surviving longevity in marriage is to work harder at remaining in love instead of worrying about the trivial material things in life.

Lets have a pole to see how many people had an affair when they were deeply in love with their partner, as opposed to just being happy with their marriage.

I would be curious to see the results
