Shohane Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 My ex was using a few fake accounts to harass me on Facebook. Lately he even asked someone to impersonate me. I reported that person to FB and told my ex that if this still happened, I'd take legal action. He got angry (for no reason?) and attacked me publicly on his FB. So, in case this still goes on, should I really take legal action?
Almond_Joy Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 Whatever gets him to stop.... This is obsessive behavior and could qualify as stalking, which is punishable by law.
lovecutsrightthruu Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 Why don't you just quit FB for a month? Some fresh air might do you good.
fancy feast Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 You may want to call the authorities, or perhaps your DA's office, and consult them about what action you can take. In the meantime, just block whatever accounts he's using (but not before taking a screencap). Why don't you just quit FB for a month? Some fresh air might do you good. Yeah...no. Don't allow yourself to be bullied off FB.

He would lose all means off harassing her and it would confuse the cr*p out of him. THe cops aren't going to do anything here.
jazze Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 Facebook should change it name to ****book! lol. Well anyway, why go so drastic to take legal action on him? Facebook has a lot of function to keep your privacy as private as possible so take advantage of that. One of the best function is set your profile to non searchable.

Almond_Joy Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 How do you get your profile to be non searchable? That feature became unavailable when they converted profiles to the Timeline theme. If you didn't have your privacy preferences set for your name to be non searchable before Timeline was implemented, you can't do it now.

If you didn't have your privacy preferences set for your name to be non searchable before Timeline was implemented, you can't do it now. Yes its just too bad the feature became unavailable now with the Timeline theme. But you can do the following if you like: The easiest way is to just prevent anyone random adding you as a friend; you can add them but they cannot find you in a search: To do this, go to your 'privacy settings' then 'how you connect' and change the 'Who can look up your timeline by name or contact info?' and 'Who can send you friend requests?' to 'friends' or 'friends of friends'. But of course you have to defriend him first or you can put all your fb friends in a group i.e. close friends and exclude him (if you don't want to delete him fm fb) or you can put him in a restricted group. In that way, he wont be able to see your future posts but still in your fb friend list. Whatever you want to do is your choice.
TaraMaiden Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 THe cops aren't going to do anything here. Fortunately, you happen to be wrong. She can use legal means to prevent him from stalking/harassing her, and if he breaks those conditions, then the cops certainly WILL do something here.

He would lose the means of harassing her on FB, but not elsewhere. That's not really my point, though. She shouldn't have to capitulate to this creep's cyberstalking.
Author Shohane Posted February 9, 2013 Author Posted February 9, 2013 People have been arrested for impersonation... and cyberbullying.
fancy feast Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 (edited) Yes, there are ways to protect yourself. Hence...this thread. ... Cyberstalking is a bs term. Yeah, it's such a bs term that almost every state in the US have laws to address it Edited February 9, 2013 by fancy feast 2
