tman666 Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Anyone else here on Fitocracy? I just got on it after being aware of its existence for quite a while, and I have to say that so far, it seems like a pretty good tool for logging workouts and seeing what others with similar goals as you are doing. If anyone else is on there, PM me so we can follow each other! 1
SmileFace Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Pm Sent... can't you tell from my exercise log? lol
JohnM Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 Old post bump, but I was reading the old fitness threads and joined this today. I've followed you, at least I hope there is only one tman666 on there haha. Still figuring out the site, app keeps crashing on my phone hopefully that fixes after first use. 1

Thanks for the follow dude! One thing I'd advise you to be mindful of with Fitocracy is the point system for tracking workouts. While I think it's good in theory, and the site does a pretty decent job of allocating the right amount of points to the right activities (with some anomalies, of course), I would be careful not to let your training be dictated by the drive to earn more points. Don't throw smart training out the window just because a particular activity earns you more points. The point/level system is a good motivator, but I'd just be careful of letting it dictate your training too much. @Monicaelise: you are one strong chica! 1
Sivok Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 Hey I've been on there for a while myself. I'll pm you
dreamingoftigers Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 I joined too! I'm not going to be at level 40 or anything anytime soon. But whatever I can do to keep me motivated! 1
JohnM Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 Will do, just trying to find something to suggest activities really. Atm I only really do bench press, and dumbell curls as weights. Running, football and cycling for cardio. Got the fitness pal app to buddy up with it to see if I can eat healthier and also encorporate new weights training in. Only got a bench and some dumbells and variant bars to use, may start going to a gym after a bit if I can afford it. May start back on push ups.

dreamingoftigers Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 Well, today isn't my start date I feel like someone smacked me with a bus. But tomorrow should be good. Do they adjust points based on where you are physically? Because a push up for me would probably me impossible (no sarc)
Author tman666 Posted March 15, 2013 Author Posted March 15, 2013 Well, today isn't my start date I feel like someone smacked me with a bus. But tomorrow should be good. Do they adjust points based on where you are physically? Because a push up for me would probably me impossible (no sarc) The point system supposedly takes into account your weight, gender, and (maybe? I would have to check) age. Unfortunately, it doesn't really take into account perceived exertion on your part. An example of this is that my fiance and lifting partner, who is also on Fitocracy, will basically do the same workout as I do, albeit with lighter weights. That said, she's still lifting atidentical percentages of her one rep max than I am. So let's say her one rep max with a barbell back squat is 225 lbs, and my one rep max is 405 lbs. Even though we'd both be working just as hard relative to our individual abilities, she would get less points on Fitocracy. It's kind of BS, but I guess nothing is perfect. Stuff like that is an example of why I cautioned John earlier against taking the point system too seriously. I think the greatest benefits of using Fitocracy are that it makes for a pretty good workout tracker (especially for those of us who are bad about filling out/losing notebooks), and it allows you to connect with people with similar interests and goals. Motivation from the point system should be, in my opinion, secondary. Just my $.02. 1
dreamingoftigers Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 Well, I totally be competing against myself. Y'know, trying to get NY minutes of exercise per week up to at least 180 mins a week instead of, well, five. 2

JohnM Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 Main use of it is indeed just to track my workout numbers, I had started using a pad last week so its nice to have a digital app that keeps it in check Though the app is crashing every minute so I'm using the mobile site on my phone as backup. I'm into an exciting rhythm of bench one day and EZcurl the next. Think I'll give it another week of this and I'll bring in another exercise. Maybe a bent over row, as I'm doing nothing for my back atm.
