Would you avoid any male/female that has anything to do with trading cards?

Case-in-point, would you want to be with a person that either plays or collect trading cards?

Now, I'm not referring directly to basketball, football, hockey, or baseball cards even though you can consider that.

I'm targeting the anime-based trading card games, like Pokemon and Yugioh. While it's not anime-based, Magic the Gathering as well.

The reason why I ask this is because I have been trading, buying, and selling Yugioh cards for almost 10 years now. While I don't take any joy playing the game, I do find the art of making a little bit of cash, while I'm still unemployed, to be somewhat interesting.

However, it doesn't have a high tolerance level among society (if at all) since it is shown to be a bit childish. To add insult to injury, I have seen what they mean since I have been around a lot of smelly, nerdy, chubby males with greasy fingers ending all kinds of fast food that can be located out there. They don't keep themselves clean either and then they put their fingers on my cards......

Yeah.

I'm sure those are NOT the kind of males any self-respected female wants to be with.

As for the females, some is just as nerdy as the males, the best females I have seen (like the ones capable of being dated) is mostly collectors but they are a very hard kind of person to find, but generally most places is female-empty or female-limited.

Lastly, I can see a lot of people making fun out of me when I do pull out my cards just to look at them at a public place like my city bus system, for example.

So far, the only female I spoke to has told me that I need to dump this card-dealing hobby if I have any chance of being with her. Right now, I'm considering the possibility. Hell, it might make me a little bit more marketable to other females even if I don't get with her.

So what about you? Would you avoid anyone who messes with these childish pieces of cardboard?

It's a hobby, it makes you money. Stop pulling them out to look at on the bus. Start another hobby as well , that is similar but socially more mature, like baseball cards or whatever.

Dude I make money off trading cards too and I'm in my 20's. I'm a girl btw!

Honestly, I get kinda embarassed sharing it with guys, or, well, anyone. People usually mock me until I tell them how much money I make on it though; that kind of shuts them up.

When I'm on a date or something with a guy it's not something I quickly disclose or anything. There's more to me, my life, and my past than TCGs, so I usually wait to bring it up. There's a bad social stigma attached to people who have anything to do with TCGs and can you really blame them? I went to a tournament this weekend and most people there were of the creepy lives-in-mom's-basement variety. Show them you're normal and they're more likely to accept your hobby.

Waiting 30-45 minutes for a city bus and having nothing to do isn't really a better option. :o

Unless I bring out my 3DS and play Pokemon Black 2 or Advance Wars: Dual Strike.

But that would also get the same results, unfortunately.

Unfortunately, that is not the case.

I'm sure of it. If nothing else, the pimples on my face proves it.

Average at best, ugly at worst.

Well then just stop it. Read the paper.

Wait, Pokemon cards still exist?

Those were the coolest things ever back in 5th grade. I still have a binder full of them somewhere around this house...

Yeah, they still exist, much to my surprise.

A new set is coming out on Feb 7th. Still got their money cards, full art cards, etc etc. Game hasn't lost much of a beat despite it is less popular than Yugioh.

I was thinking of just collecting them.

As you can see, I have a strong knowledge of these TCGs.

There's no issue with trading card games.... At all.

The issue is with the guy with greasy hair and acne and unkept clothes, light blur awkwardly shaped pants and a water bottle hanging of his phanny pack... You get the picture.

If you don't take them out in the bus, then it shouldn't matter at all. Introduce the hobby well after establishing rapport with someone.

You know what man? I LOVE when I get laid in my Stat wars shirt!

Also play your hobbies up! I love to tell girls that I made 900 bucks selling a world of Warcraft character once. I love video games too.

But I also play guitar and other things. After establishing some rapport you can introduce less socially-appealing hobbies in ways that highlight why you like them. Here's what I say

"Yeah well I do like video games! I mean, just have 20 abilities with 10 other people with 20 different abilities that fight against you? The strategy, quick thinking, and team management is pretty great. Running a group is like running a business with resource requirements and planning activities- we did great and when I decided to make more real life time I sold my guy on eBay for 900 bucks in high school it was pretty ridiculous what people pay for things like that!"

So now I've expressed a deeper reasoning - why exactly I'm interested - and related it to something more relatable yet still true with a good analogy. The sales price indicates I was good at what I did and even if she has no interest in playing a video game, she can likely understand why I've enjoyed. If she can't accept that then she can **** off right? Same for you.

Being a "nerd" is a bit trendy these days...they're called hipsters.

But I'm not sure the line has reached the boundaries of trading cards, such as pokemon and magic the gathering, it might take a while to get to that...if ever.

If you've got nothing else going for you, like looks, style, social skills I'd cut back on the social awkwardness that may be burdened upon you for enjoying this hobby publicly...if you're looking to catch a love interest by chance.

I'd just keep that hobby to yourself, there's no reason putting it on display...furthermore it's a side hobby and you make cash off of it, If anyone is actually interested in you then they'll be more than likely able to accept this, especially if they are emotionally moved by you in some way.

So just keep the pokemon cards under the bed and out of sight until you get to know the person a little better...and if by chance you meet another girl who is a bit on the nerdy side but doesn't have enough social aptitude, style or wit to be called the trendy hipster, then you can reveal your deep dark secret to her and giggle over a glass of chocolate milk while telepathically touching her boob as you gaze into her glasses and at her good eye.

Go to Comic Con and it will be perfectly normal. I saw a short clip where they have even started speed dating at Con events, try your luck there you may meet a kindred spirit.

Honestly though, it's a hobby why should you hide it. I would understand if you were into taxidermy or were a Brony :p, seriously though taxidermy creeps me out...

This... same goes for most geeky hobbies.

Being a bit geeky myself, I once persuaded my girlfriend to go with me to an open day at a local board games shop/club. The intention being to play a game or two, maybe meet some new people or find some interesting games. When we got there, it was just a bunch of bearded, overweight or scrawny, twenty to thirtysomething bespectacled guys with unkempt clothes and bad hair. Not a single one looked vaguely presentable or normal. Every single one screamed 'stereotype geek'.

We walked out again...

Hipsters are NOT nerds. Hipsters are nothing but a bunch of sheep clones doing what the media says is popular. Nerds get beat up in school for being a nerd. They pay their dues and earned or even embraced the geekdom they choose the socially unpopular route or thing because that is what they love and obsess over and not give a **** what other people think about it. THAT is what a nerd is.

Hipsters like to claim they are a nerd. Oh look at me I have black rim glasses that aren't even prescription they are just a hip accessory. Nerds need glasses because they spend too much time focusing on reading or computers. Oh look I am a nerd because I use a mac. **** you come back when you compiled your own custom linux distro for an 8 second boot time.

I wish those services can be acquired for relatively cheap due to unemployment. :(

Really need to find a job. Feels like I'm dead on the inside while being of no value to anyone.

It is becoming clearer to me now why there are so many guys here having trouble attracting women. The themes are developing.

I think this thread is funny.

I'm a girl and I also have cards. I have tons of friends who do weekly tournaments and such. I wouldn't be upset at all if I met a guy who was into it. I would be happy to have someone to play and trade with.

I think youshould think about what kinds of girls you are going after.

I'm pretty much open to all women that is, at least, attractive. Like a 5/10 or better. I have no issues settling when it comes to looks if I'm attracted to her and she is willing to consider the possibility of marriage.

And no, I'm not a nerd or a hipster. I'm willing to be social, I'm quite nice (too nice for my own good at times), and I can take command of anything whenever needed. I didn't get 4 years of NJROTC leadership training just to let it waste away for nothing.

In fact, I refuse to be like them. I simply chose which activities I want to be a part of.

I may play Yugioh casually (like twice tops a week) with a relatively cheap deck but I'm not addicted to it. I also do not act like these fat, smelly males that I had the honor to deal with when playing. If it wasn't for the fact that I actually like playing this game, I would have quit a long time ago.

Even if I do quit, I rather continue collecting the cards slowly.

I do need better hobbies. That, I won't disagree with. However, until I can find one where I'm willing to focus the majority of my energy to and actually enjoy it, I rather not quit this one.

So I disagree that messing with these trading cards makes me unfit for society. I simply hasn't made a suitable push and market myself towards the women.

I simply need to figure out the best way to do so.

As long as theres compatibility, chemistry and some common interests I wouldnt care about this...

I've met some extremely hot girls playing TCG's, some decent ones and some below-average ones. But I would say that their nerdy hobby makes even the below-average girls a lot more appealing, and the hot ones almost too much to be believed. With guys I'm sure the opposite is true.

Bro, I'm not trying to be mean but.. i'm pretty sure the tools that bring a pair of dumbells onto the bus would be more appealing than you. Get rid of the pokemons, cut that ridiculous spiky hair off the top of your head, and start being a normal person. You wanna stay the way you are? Go to japan.

I got a standard military hair cut. I'm also black as well so that is frankly impossible.

I don't deal with anything concerning "spiky" or anything that frankly looks stupid.

I need to post an image of myself.

Pretty ridiculous to drop a 10-year hobby for a girl whom you've just started dating. I used to play booster draft at Friday Night Magic that included something like 50+ people. Some of them are married or have bfs/gfs. You'll be fine.

Being unemployed though... maybe not so much? And I don't see why you aren't seeking treatment for your pimples if you feel they are a disadvantage. Benzoyl peroxide costs like $10 OTC.

I know this may sound embarrassing but I was NEVER told this.

Thanks for letting me know.. I can use some of my profits out of this game towards this.

I literally thought I need to find medical attention. If I can do some curing myself, I would be glad to.
