tropicamide Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 Hi, just wondering if some people (especially ladies) can weigh in on this. I met a lady few weeks ago. After few minutes of conversation, she gave me her number without me asking for it. She also mentioned she’s a single, btw. So I contacted her couple of days later and asked her if we can meet. Her response was that she’s busy. I then asked her if we could meet any other day, and she said that she’s so busy that she’s not sure. Could anyone make some sense out of this?

She didn't mean to give you her number.
MrCastle Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 Weird stuff. I've had a girl offer me her number and when I texted her (on 3 different occasions) she never got back to me. Oh well. I thought this was gonna be a thread on how to get numbers. I was ready to answer that. During our convo, I casually hand the girl my phone, with a blank contact page on the screen and just say "here". She then enters it in and gives it back to me. I have my doubts about a girl handing me back the phone without entering her number in. I don't think girls want to risk a situation that awkward or whatever. It's a good way to get a number without actually asking for it. If you ask, they have all sorts of excuses they can give you. At least here, you don't have to ask and risk coming across as shy or nervous if you fumble your question.

My friend did the exact same thing to a guy we met at a bar recently. In her situation, she had just broken up with her ex, and wanted to feel "free and single" again. She was also a bit tipsy. Anyway, we wound up leaving soon after the two exchanged numbers. Once she sobered up and actually addressed the text from him asking to hang out, she promptly deleted his number and flat-out ignored him. She was only using him to make herself feel validated, a pretty stupid and selfish thing to do. Unfortunately, maybe this is the same sort of thing that happened to you?
