JuneJulySeptember Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 Well she isn't into sushi and told me she likes Italian,Mexican and Indian food.maybe ill just ask ask If she knows a place I'm just not that familer with the area we are meeting so kinda didn't want to leave the ball in her court Don't let her pick. Always be assertive if possible. Yelp or Citysearch. Anything really. But if you can't I'll help you. Indian food tends to be heavy and spicy, and that could lead to ugly things. Good Italian food tends to be expensive. So, I'd go with Mexican. 1
Author OCCDAVE Posted February 6, 2013 Author Posted February 6, 2013 So I take it the chain restaurants is a bad idea ?anyway I'm looking for Mexican places to eat so will see
Titania22 Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 Don't let her pick. Always be assertive if possible. Just Wow! What is wrong with a woman picking out a restaurant?
JuneJulySeptember Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 Just Wow! What is wrong with a woman picking out a restaurant? Why don't you ask your fellow sisters who would get all bent out of shape if a man asked them to pick a restaurant on a first date? Not only would they think it reflects badly on the man for not knowing anything about restaurants, but they'd think it's passive and unmanly.
CarrieT Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 So I take it the chain restaurants is a bad idea ?anyway I'm looking for Mexican places to eat so will see I think a chain restaurant is *always* a bad idea, but I am self-avowed foodie and would immediately dismiss a guy who can't be a little more inventive. Others have suggested Yelp and I couldn't agree more. That, or Chowhound. Italian can be very inexpensive if you find a mom-and-pop place. Olive Garden? I would cancel the date... 1
JuneJulySeptember Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 So I take it the chain restaurants is a bad idea ?anyway I'm looking for Mexican places to eat so will see Depends on the woman. Some women would be OK with that. Personally, I don't roll that way. I don't really go to eat at Applebees even with my friends, so I wouldn't bring a date there. I mean, what kind of woman is she? Does she look like she gets asked out a lot and has a lot of options? 1

Don't let this kind of post discourage you OCC. You are obviously a real downhome kinda guy, so this isn't the kind of woman you are looking for anyway. I would almost argue that using Applebees to weed women like this out might not be a bad idea. But, I would err on the side of picking something more exciting than chain. Best case scenario, she's a real laid back girl, but you earn points with her anyway for picking a cool place. It can only help you. 1
Author OCCDAVE Posted February 6, 2013 Author Posted February 6, 2013 Well Im glad I asked so ill do a search and see what I find.Only reason I was trying to cheap it down maybe I can do a date 2 on valentines d lol jk ( one thing at at time ).
Cutiepie1976 Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 So I take it the chain restaurants is a bad idea ?anyway I'm looking for Mexican places to eat so will see Perhaps focus on your date's tastes rather than on what would impress a male poster who won't even be on your date. Would she like Mexican? When you're in college, chains are fine. As you get beyond that, depending on a range of factors, they are generally not the best options. If you aren't familiar with the area, look on Yelp or Chowhound as others suggest. Ask friends and coworkers for suggestions. I know you're pissed about the drive, but do a dry run, and go visit a few of the places that match your budget, look good to you, and are things that both you and your date are likely to enjoy. You don't want unpleasant surprises when you're trying to make a good impression. Look at parking options. Have exact addresses. Get phone numbers. Give her helpful information when you call to share details of the date. I always appreciate when guys do this, even though I often know the area far better than they do. It's thoughtful. Good luck! Stay positive. 1
Author OCCDAVE Posted February 6, 2013 Author Posted February 6, 2013 Thats some really good advice .Ill check out some places maybe even make the trip out there to map it out .Tomo ill use it to find a place then ill call her about Thursday with the details
Cutiepie1976 Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 Just Wow! What is wrong with a woman picking out a restaurant? Dozens of reasons! For starters, you have no idea what the guy's price range might be. Most guys insist on paying. How awkward to pick something outside his budget. It's also a risk for the guy, right? Did he want a $75 tab or a $1000+ tab? I've had both as first dates in the past year.

Lani Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 As far as I can tell, your best option is Mexican. Have I missed something, and there is no Mexican place near either of you? 1

What a shocker, I choose the restaurant when the date is at my end of town. And I choose the Thai restaurant where you can generally get out for $13 total bill, and the food is great. I would be horrified at some paying $75 for 1 meal. 1

clia Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 Outback is fine. You are way over thinking this. 1
CarrieT Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 Outback is fine. You are way over thinking this. Depends on where he is living. Here is San Francisco, there are no Outback, Applebees, or Olive Garden within the confines of the city - and it would be unheard of to take a date to a restaurant of this ilk; they are that maligned and dismissed. There are, however, thousands of small, inexpensive hole-in-the-walls where a $30 or $40 all-inclusive date could be had. In fact, most college-aged people are more in touch with these budget eateries and with that, they thrive. OCC, find the small, well-regarded gem in the 'hood - it will show more thoughtfulness about the date that you researched a little than relying on a chain that will be mediocre at best and unforgettable at worst. Make the date memorable - it does not have to involve more money, but it does have to involve a bit more work on your part. 2
candie13 Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 I told you, mate, find a place with decadent deserts, she'll look at you in totally different light ! 1

Do NOT take her to Mexican. You might get the sh*ts and your chances will plummet like the Hindenburg.

Do some of the planning on the first date? Horrified at paying less than $100 dollars for a first date? Where's your sense of entitlement to be wined, dined, and entertained? What kind of a freak woman are you?
JuneJulySeptember Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 I changed my mind, OCC. Take her to Outback. If she bails based on the fact that you didn't sufficiently impress her with your gastro-knowledge and inventiveness, SCREW HER. That's what kind of dude you are. She doesn't deserve a man like you. She already said Outback was fine, so go with it. Hopefully she is that type who doesn't care. And if she is, you are gold.
