surfergirl Posted August 25, 2004 Posted August 25, 2004 We are having a discussion at work about men. We girls think that men have a "cycle" just like women and the guys here are denying it - or trying to. Why can't men admit that they can be just as big a b*tch as women??? No, we are not saying that you are "female" in any way shape or form but why is it so "strange" that it could be a reason for your mood swings as well???? Any advice would help our case - ty.
lnichols Posted August 26, 2004 Posted August 26, 2004 I don't know about men having cycles, but I do believe, strongly, in male menopause. So it would seem logical that men would have fluctuations in their hormone levels. For some reason, though, just the thought if something like that makes most guys cringe and run off. Let me ask you something. Have you ever had a man ask you for something for a headache, and the only thing you had was Midol? I have NEVER known a man to willingly take Midol or any other "female" pain reliever, even though it is basically the same thing as in any other pain reliever. It is like they think it will make them grow breasts or something. I think that this is the way men in our culture are socialized. And that no matter how great a guy is, there is something inside him that has been taught that women are different, maybe inferior, and that the worst thing that can happen is to be compared in any way to a woman. (Ever heard insults like "You hit like a girl" or "He has girlie hands"?)
mehim Posted August 27, 2004 Posted August 27, 2004 actually i heard if from a guy once, that guys PMS everyday for a very short period of time. i was like no way. lol then i asked another guy if it sounds like something that could be true, the guy was like i would say so also. i was like hmmmm, interesting. so i dont know im just basing this on couple of men, but i think that we should do a survey, although most men wont admit it, like the other two guys, but who knows.
lnichols Posted August 27, 2004 Posted August 27, 2004 I think that you have very enlightened male friends. Maybe it is because I'm in Texas, I don't know. I have not found a guy yet that would take Midol, even if he thought his head was going to explode. I also am not aware of any men in my circles that would admit to hormonal fluctuations. I have been known to tell my husband once or twice that he needed Midol, though!
Moondust Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 I've read somewhere that Guys do have some sort of Cycle. 3 Statements on that article: 1- Girls who live together (not necessarily lesbians) have a regular and even sometimes synchronized cycle. 2- a Guy who lives with a woman (his mom, sister, girlfriend... no matter) will also have his "cycle" synchronized with the other women he lives with... It's kinda like an Anticipation to the Bitchy mood. 3- Guys bitchy mood is the total opposite of Girls... the girl gets bitchy... the guy "cools down"... while when the girl cools down... the guy gets bitchy. A guy will be bitchy alot longer... but It's not going to compare to the level of "1-2 days of total bitchiness" a girl can have.
pretty_petal Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 Men do have cycles, tho they aren't as quick as lady cycles. Has anyone else read men are from mars, women are from venus? its all in there!! Tis true, also my bf agrees with book. However he reckons he rarely has 'cycles'... yeah right... petal x
lnichols Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 I just remember that when I used to get into a bad mood, PMS or not, he would always say something flip like "Must be that time of the month!" It got to be like that was my only reason to ever be in a bad mood in his eyes. Like if I came home from Little League practice with my older son and my ex had let the toddler destroy the house and he had not attempted to pick it up. It was "OH! Is it THAT time of the month???" "No, a**h***! The house didn't look like this when I left. Help out, would you?" And, yes, I work with mostly women and everyone's cycles are about the same. And at the risk of sounding male, it is a boiling hormonal kettle of doom!! I had a hysterectomy, so I'm out of the loop!!
Author surfergirl Posted August 31, 2004 Author Posted August 31, 2004 I'm back....took a few days off....but anyway thanks for the info... I've let the girls here read it and we seem to have a good "case" against the guys here who refuse to admit they too can be "menstral" from time to time. We have to stir the sh** around here to break the boredom.... Thanks again 1
