Dangraystyle Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 I've been seeing my girlfriend for almost 2 months now. Its not been perfect but she seems like a lovely person. Today we were texting and she sends me this: "oh you don't know this about me but I really hate Chinese people, not even in a racist way though" Whaaaaaa? I basically told her that you shouldn't judge people before you know them and that just because you met some terrible chinese people, it doesn't mean they're all like that. Her response: "Okay we can agree to disagree because I'm not going to change my mind." How can a person who seems so nice say this?
KraftDinner Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 Unpopular opinion coming: Are you Chinese? Is anyone you care about Chinese? If not, what difference does it make? I'm white and I know the worst thing in the world to accuse another white person of is being racist. Yeah, racism's bad. Of course. But I think to expect everyone to feel happy and wonderful about everyone else in the world is naively idealistic. I have to read **** on FB every day from my heavy friends who post **** like, "men don't like skinny girls! They want curves!" I'm thin so they're hating on me indirectly. The point is everybody has issues with someone. As long as she isn't actively hateful, she's probably pretty normal. What if she hated dentists? Would it bother you if she was an anti-dentite? Sorry, seinfeld reference, couldn't resist. ------- Oh, and I realize to many there is absolutely no middle ground here but in my opinion that's silly. But....bottom line, it comes down to whether or not her beliefs are compatible with yours. Are you asking to see if she's normal? Or are you asking because you work with newly immigrated families? If the latter, this probably won't work.
KraftDinner Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 Ahahahaha, anyone else seeing an ad for Asian dating on this page now? 1
HitMeNow Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 Next time bring it up to her in person and if she says that, tell her that if you hear her say it again, you ll slap her in the ****ing face. (in a confident manly voice) She ll grow up and respect you more. Remember you're there to guide her through life. If you want her to develop into a confident lovely woman, you have to teach her what is right and what is wrong. Racism is wrong. Cheers. Disclaimer: I am white as ****. And honestly there was a period in life where I was pretty racist myself
clia Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 What was the context for the comment? Were you two discussing Chinese people or was it out of the blue? This sounds like the kind of comment you make when you are intentionally trying to drive someone away.
Ladybugz Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 nice is the face or body, but you got to know the inside which is ofter a disaster. dont get fooled by the pretty face.. at the other hand some culture are very racist so if someone dont like them i can understand. like white hates everything that is not white. Irac hates Iran, chines hates Korean. sad enough. hate is wrong but if you are bad and racist for shore people will hate you. nobody wants to be around racist people.
sabre80 Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 I can say I am not racist. I am very prejudiced though. As King Jr said judge people by the content of their character not their skin. I hate certain subcultures of black people. I hate subcultures of white people. It is more about how you live your life and the morals you abide by. Further than that it is a preference thing to. I am as white as they come. But give me a choice to hang out with a bunch of black people who are listening to jazz and talking about philosophy or a bunch of white people talking about football and listening to country I am going to hang with the black people. There are also religious aspects and experience I gathered in the army. Ask me if I will ever voluntarily vacation in Afghanastan or palistine or egypt or any other sharia nation.
AMusing Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 Disclaimer: I am white as ****. So.... you're a deep brown color? Because if your **** is white, a tendency towards domestic abuse isn't your only problem. OP, that's a seriously weird thing for her to say. Can you give us context?
TheGuard13 Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 She actually hates Chinese people? Or she's just not wild about them. Because there's a difference. My parents don't care for "white trash". I have friends who don't care for certain elements of "black culture". There are people who don't like fat people. Doesn't mean they're racist or hate-filled.

What is wrong with you? Racism is wrong, fine. But violence is okay? You're demented.
FitChick Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 If you like Chinese food, this could be a problem.
veggirl Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 Why Chinese people? What does that mean? Does she mean all Asians or something? Are Japanese people okay? Cambodian? Indian? Korean? Mongolian? How does she know when someone is Chinese? She asks? I think your girlfriend is probably very, very dumb.
KungFuJoe Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 Seems like a pretty "dumb" thing to say. I mean...it's just tactless. Look...I'll be honest. I "subscribe" to certain stereotypes. I've said at times that, "Chinese people would steal from their brother to make a dollar." Of course, I don't mean ALL Chinese people...but from the experiences I had (dated a Chinese girl for 4 years), and worked for 4 different Chinese computer companies...I can say that, in MY experience, Chinese people are EXTREMELY money hungry with low morals when it comes to getting it. Perhaps your gf had the same experiences I had and was just being "blunt" about it. Another reason why I hate texting because you lose tone and context sometimes. You need to discuss this her in detail. Because if she IS being racist, for no reason, I would bail.
