Hey guys, my bf and I will have been dating a year this August 31st. Yay! The rather uncool part of it is that we're both broke. Do you all have any ideas of cheap ways to spend a one year anniversary? :-)

I admit, I am a bit depressed that I don't get to be wined and dined, but there are more important things, like love, which I have an abundance of.

Ah well. Anyway, if you have any ideas, let me know.

P.s. can you think of anything cool to do past ten o'clock? I work two jobs, so I don't get home until then.

Either, pack (store purchased or from home) a pinic (whatever you both like) along with some inexpensive wine (if you drink if not then substitute wine for....) and candles, (something to burn the candles in) and matches (or lighter).

or stop along the way at a resteraunt open late night and grab some chow (along with the wine (or whatever you like) and candles (for a romantic touch) and bring it to a local (safe) park or river, somewhere were (if weather permits it) you can be together under the stars (I suggest somewhere wide open where you can actually see the huge open sky) spend time with one another, feed each other, be romantic, and maybe even make love under the starry sky.

Just a suggestion of course not everyone appreciates little romantic things like this (i'm an old fashioned young romantic at heart).

We are actually lower budget then that, however. lol.

Going to a park is a great idea, though. I'm sure the moonlight would be gorgeous on a pond. :-)

And as for being old fashioned, Nawhhhhh. I am too, if you are. :)

I understand being broke!

Our first few anniversaries were pretty poor money-wise too. I believe I found some old christmas and birthday candles and put them in the bathroom, put on some music, used some of the scented soaps someone gave me a long time before, some dishwashing liquid (all I had to make a bubble bath) and we shared a bath and scrubbed each others backs and washed each others hair, and .... :o

I think I made him a "fancy" dinner too and in those days (well, still to be honest) a fancy dinner means putting tuna fish and peas in the mac & cheese! :p

Heck, it was our first anniversary and back then it didn't matter what we had, as long as we had it together!

Ok so chuck the idea of the "picnic" just spend time together under the stars, enjoying one another! At least you're not materialistic...

If you two live together I hope he's helping you out financially at least a little (if not then I can understand even more how you'd be strapped for cash).

So just snuggle up and whisper sweet nothings to each other and lock out the world, make that night YOUR night where nothing but the two of you matter!

Creative! As long as two people are happy and doing the best they can I think doing little things to make each other know that they are appreciated really works!

I think we may have cat food... ;):o:p

Oh, so very true! I'd rather have love then a fancy meal, any day! :)

Yeah, we live together and we split bills. We're saving up for a big move, plus my bank went nuts and started giving us incorrect balances... long story. :p So, as of now, we are both as broke as can be.

*romantic sigh* And so we shall, Angel. And so we shall. :)

Sorry to hear there is so much happening, how sad especially since you two are trying to save up money.

Glad to know that he'll appreciate your romantic gesture then! Have fun! :D

This is an idea I plan on doing soon for my sweets...

I will make a lot of little sayings telling him how much I love him and put them on little pieces of papers, folded. Tell him to pull one out each day. (Maybe make 365 for the entire year, one for each day?) Take a mason jar and decorate it to store the love notes in. If you want, provide another decorated mason jar to put the read ones back into.

Love is in the air.

Yeah, I gotta admit, I'm bummed out, but things could be worse *knock on wood*

I'm just trying to keep myself emotionally bouyant so that I can enjoy our anniversary, despite the financial problems that we're having. :) I don't want lack of money to be the reason that we have a bad time on our anniversary. I think that would be pretty shallow of me, personally.

Thanks! :)

Well now---there was a time....

Special Cuts dog food (do they still make that?) wasn't too bad, a little dry.

Randall's grocery store had their own brand of pet food that came in large cans. They had one that was a special diet for dogs that was chicken and rice. It would cook up nicely and wasn't too bad either (we mixed it with a big pot of rice so it would last longer). We used to alternate that with the Ramen noodles! :p

Pet food won't kill 'ya! ;)

me singing:

"Everything is gonna be ok..everything is gonna be alright oh yeah.."

My one yr anniversary we were BEYOND broke...

We jumped the fence to some community pool lol and hung out there the whole night just the two of us. He tried singing strangers in the night but didnt know the words so it was

"Doobe doobe doooooo" lol

(sigh) good times.

Then we went home and grabbed the biggest tooper ware bowls and filled them with cereal and milk and sat in front of the tv watching cartoon network and then went at it , then fell alseep.

It was better than any fancy meal, or going out.

No kidding. Well, I guess that it would taste like people food even though it is labled pet food. I'd never considered that. LOL. :p

Actually, something like that isn't a bad idea.

That's a really cute idea, MadamSwirl. I'm also thinking of a coupon book. Like...ONE FREE MASSAGE: Redeemable through girlfriend only.
