Guys

At what point do you take down your ex gfs pictures and remove them from your wallet after a breakup?

Do some of you hang on to them until you finally accept the breakup?

Do you keep them around until you get over her?

Do you forget to remove those things and its just a matter of doing it at a time that is crosses your mind?

Ladies

How long do you hang on to your ex stuff, like flowers pictures gifts that he gave you?

I guess the same questions apply.

The time I've hung on to things that were given to me by my exes has differed. With my most "recent" ex I even just decided to keep some things that were his gifts because I honestly like them and want them. To get to the point where it doesn't bother me to have things that he had given me, though, it took months. When we had first broken up I didn't move anything for quite some days. Then at some point, I think a few weeks later, I started "hiding" all the things he had given me as a way to heal faster (it works for me). Then once I was really over it, I started selecting things to throw out and things to keep.

The whole process took months and months for me. But things like pictures in a wallet / phone / facebook, those are the things that I got rid of at the very beginning. It's the other less romantic gifts that were selected later on.

With my previous ex it was quicker because the relationship was rather abusive on his part and he put me through hell after the breakup (which I initiated). I pretty much got rid of everything - or nearly - the first few weeks.

What you should do when you break up is gather all those things together immediately and put them into a box.

Don't mark the box.

Tape it up, and give it to your mom and dad to store away for you, without telling you where it all is.

Out of sight helps the healing.

Anything associated with your ex, or which immediately springs bitter-sweet memories, should be dealt with in the same way.

All their stuff should unhesitatingly be returned to them by a mutual friend.

In a year or so, when you dad asks you "Do you still want this ?" You will reply...."Huh....? What is it?"
