ihatedating Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 The guy I was dating for 3 months took me out to dinner and then we went ice skating (for which I paid for) then he drops me off at home and dumps me. He then says happy holidays. Since he knew the whole time that he was going to dump me why even take me out and go ice skating and even let me pay just to break up? It was so weird. We were laughing and skating one moment and 10 min later he dumps me. Can someone shed some light on this? He wasted my time that evening. I would rather get a phone breakup.

What I do know is the same thing happened to a friend a while back. Dated for about 3 months...he took her to an expensive lunch, to a museum, a walk in the park and while holding hands he splits up with her. She had no idea it was coming and didn't get it either.
FailedFirstLove Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 Hmmm maybe he was living a double life? And dating more than just you. So then he made the choice and broke it off with u.
esteem-jam Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 Easy. Did he say: I dump you? Or you were hoping for sex that evening? He goes away to home and you perceive it as dumping. Maybe he was just too shy? But ignore this if he said: I dump you. Or he really wanted to end things. Seeing how bad this would be, he decided let her at least have some fun and joy - so he entertained you. He let you have some sugar before salt. At least that, than salt alone. See- he did care for you, just not enough for a long lasting relationship, he did not see such future.
HaveFaithxx Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 THe exact same thing happened to me. We went to the movies, and I paid for it. THen he breaks up with me in the subway station on the way home. I just looked at him, said "Ok, bye" and jumped on the subway while he was still talking to me, lol. I was shocked how someone could do that. I spent a few days tryig to make sense of it. Then I was like f*** it, he's not worth it. I had deleted him from everything and went total NC from the moment I got home. THis was a year ago.....then guess what. I got a text after Christmas a few weeks ago: "Hi! How are you? I just wanted to say Merry xmas and happy new year. And I wanted to tell you I am having a baby. It's a dream come true!" WTF?!?!?! I amswered: Congratulations, but honestly, why do you think I'd care? 2
imtooconfused Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 Sometimes there are no good explanations... In HaveFaithxx's case, the dude probably just wanted to watch the movie on someone else's dime. But in ihatedating's case it sounds like he paid for at least the dinner. All I can say is that breaking up is stressful and perhaps he tried to find the "right time" and had to build up the nerve to give you the news. In your case, it obviously was a fail. I'm sorry you got dumped.
Coping Vortex Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 I think they do a "look back". I believe Cav coined this phrase. They went to back to see if the magic was still there. My ex did the same thing to me. We spent the day together, we talked cried told me she wanted me back (we were BU) ****ed me and disappeared that night back to friend zone/NC.
Author ihatedating Posted January 22, 2013 Author Posted January 22, 2013 It was so bizarre. One moment we're at dinner and he's joking around and telling me about his college days and the next moment he's saying "we're on different levels." We even shared food at dinner! This happened a month ago and I never heard from him again. I know he's still single because he's still on the dating site I met him on! People are so friggin weird. I'm just mad I wasted my time and money paying for his ice skating tickets!! Cheapass 1
