guest71274 Posted August 22, 2004 Posted August 22, 2004 Sorry if this is posted in the wrong forum. This may seem like a stupid question coming from a 30 year old woman. It's also rather embarrasing to say the least. What is a normal color for the first days of a period for a healthy, fertile, adult, woman?? Here's the thing. My boyfriend and I had sex during my fertile period last month. Later the same month I had a normal menstral period and early this month I had signs of ovulation. However, I've been experiencing nausea (I can no longer even think about eating eggs, I'm easily grossed out, and the earlier I wake in the mornings the worse it is), less breakouts (I've always had a problem with acne), emotions (I get easily frustrated and I start bawling at little things and sometimes I'm in a good mood when I shoud be upset), weight gain, mild cramping, tightness in my abdomen, and my breasts are tender (sometimes to the point I can't lie on my stomach). Certain signs of pregnancy, I know. But as I said, my last period was normal and I hadn't had sex after that until a couple days ago. I have also taken two home pregnancy tests, both negative. And this months period is right on schedule; but it's bright pink which isn't what it normally is for me. I talked to my cousin about it and she agrees something doesn't seem quite right. I know the best person to talk to would be a doctor, but I don't like seeing them unless I absolutely have to. I will if this period continues to be "abnormal" (for me anyway). Maybe I just wasn't normal before. For as long as I can remember, it's never been a bright pink. I've always been worried about being infertile and have often thought that since my periods weren't a bright pink that was a sign that something was wrong. All my pap smears have been normal. And my gyno never said anything about anything being abnormal when I went for my last pap (which was done the very first day of a 'normal' period... first day I always just spot so it wasn't nasty gross or anything). This time it is a bright pink and I'm wondering what's up... LOL. I really don't know what I'm looking for by posting this. Maybe just putting my thoughts into words for the entire world to see. I would like to know what the "normal" color should be for the first day or so of a period. Or if I might be pregnant and that's why it's "abnormal". I know a woman can have her period or spot during pregnancy. So if there's anyone out there who's not too embarrased to share her experiences... or if someone out there just happens to know either way. Thank you in advance for any input.
Pocky Posted August 22, 2004 Posted August 22, 2004 Have you changed anything in your daily routine? Type of food you're eating? Exercising? Taking any herbs or alternate medications?
moimeme Posted August 22, 2004 Posted August 22, 2004 often thought that since my periods weren't a bright pink that was a sign that something was wrong. Bright pink? Pink? It's blood, which is red as a rule. Why did you think you were wierd because it wasn't pink???
supermom Posted August 22, 2004 Posted August 22, 2004 I am not a doctor, but it does sound different. I think you should have a blood pregnancy test done. These are all the symptoms I had when I became pregnant, but ignored them and didn't take a test until I was actually almost 6 weeks pregnant. Are your breasts bigger? The reason I ask is that is how my husband noticed and asked me to get a pregnancy test done. They were bigger and thicker, but I never noticed myself until it was pointed out to me. Definetly go to your doctor! Let us know!! Good Luck
Mr Spock Posted August 22, 2004 Posted August 22, 2004 Please go to a doctor. What do they call tubal pregnancies again?
Matilda Posted August 23, 2004 Posted August 23, 2004 Okay, a few of questions: What day of your cycle did you have sex on? And what day of your cycle did your period start? When did the pregnancy symptoms start? You can read about tubal, or ectopic, pregnancy here: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000895.htm I'm not sure that the color of menstrual flow really means anything. The color of blood is usually related to how much oxygen is in the blood. Usually blood that's older, or been in your uterus for a while, will have less oxygen in it, and thus be darker. But, I am no expert. The thing that bothers me is the pregnancy symptoms. Call the doctor's office, tell them you have a question for the nurse, they will call you back and you can explain the situation.
guest71274 Posted August 23, 2004 Posted August 23, 2004 Have you changed anything in your daily routine? Type of food you're eating? Exercising? Taking any herbs or alternate medications? I was taking some diet pills. Never had medications change the color of my period before though. Bright pink? Pink? It's blood, which is red as a rule. Why did you think you were wierd because it wasn't pink??? I always thought it should be pink (a diluted red) or red. But it's always been a gross old blood brown for the first day or so, then goes to a deep red when it starts flowing. Are your breasts bigger? The reason I ask is that is how my husband noticed and asked me to get a pregnancy test done. They were bigger and thicker, but I never noticed myself until it was pointed out to me. Not really sure. There has been a couple reasons I thought they might be, but then could just be my imagination too. They're rather large to begin with. I hope if they do get bigger it's not by too much. Please go to a doctor. What do they call tubal pregnancies again? Oh if it is a tubal I'll be devistated. I was going to wait to see what happens with this period. The more I think about it, the more I think I should see a doctor either way just to be safe. I will keep y'all posted if you're really interested. Thank you so much for posting. It is greatly appreciated.
guest71274 Posted August 23, 2004 Posted August 23, 2004 Sorry Metilda, you hadn't posted before I started my last reply. Thank you for the information. Okay, a few of questions: What day of your cycle did you have sex on? And what day of your cycle did your period start? When did the pregnancy symptoms start? My BF and I did have sex during my most fertile period last month as well as about a week later, but my menstral period was normal and right on schedule after that. We didn't have sex again until just a few days ago. I started getting nauseous about 2 weeks after the first 'encounter'. I noticed a reduction in breakouts and started bawling about stupid little things just a little later. My breasts started hurting and I began experiencing tighness in my abdomen about a week ago. Guess it never hurts to just call huh?
Mr Spock Posted August 23, 2004 Posted August 23, 2004 Etopic. Etopic pregnancy. Please, if you feel concerned, go to a doctor.
