happythroughout Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 In dating, a lot lies in one's looks. Some people say that guys and girls have different views on looks. For example, if some girl is deemed good looking by most guys, chances are girls don't share the same view. And if some other girl is deemed good looking by most girls, she's usually not seen as good looking by the guys. Few girls are deemed good looking by both girls and guys. Do you agree?
Author happythroughout Posted January 16, 2013 Author Posted January 16, 2013 My question is realy do you think guys and girls have different views on looks?
KungFuJoe Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 There is subjective beauty and universal beauty. Sarah Jessica Parker. A lot of people actually consider her ugly yet she is a model, actress and even a sex symbol. Kim Kardashian. Dumb as a board. You'd be hard pressed to find a man or woman who doesn't think she is a very good looking woman. Even if you hate her guts. 1
Drseussgrrl Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 Catherine Zeta Jones. A universal beauty. 1
KungFuJoe Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 Catherine Zeta Jones. A universal beauty. In her Zorro days, yes. She was never really my cup of tea but I'd be a damned liar if I said she wasn't good looking.
KungFuJoe Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 Faith Hill and Shania Twain. Both hot. Yup...those are universal. Subjective is Sarah McLachlan. I LOVE her and I think she's gorgeous. Other people probably don't share in that opinion.
Author happythroughout Posted January 16, 2013 Author Posted January 16, 2013 Yes, there's subjective/gender-specific beauty and universal beauty. But is it usually true that guys and girls have different opinions? Specifically between the genders? That if most girls think a girl is good looking, chances are guys don't agree?
iris219 Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 That if most girls think a girl is good looking, chances are guys don't agree? No. I disagree with this. Different people will view beauty differently, but I don't think it's necessarily gender related. An exception might be when a woman is dressed slutty, men will think she's hot (whether she is or not.) Women aren't sexually attracted to her so a skimpy outfit doesn't necessarily make a woman hot (if you're female).

Specifically between the genders? That if most girls think a girl is good looking, chances are guys don't agree? Nah I disagree. I think what you're getting at though, is guys tend to think "Omg she is SO HOT" if she's trashy and girls are all "OMG no way she's a skank."
Author happythroughout Posted January 16, 2013 Author Posted January 16, 2013 Interesting. Because most girls think I have the looks but few guys agree.
somedude81 Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 In other words, almost all women that men think are hot, women do too. Though not all women that women think are hot, do men agree with. Which means that women are less picky about women's looks then men are.
iris219 Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 Interesting. Because most girls think I have the looks but few guys agree. How do you know this? I think it's more difficult to impress a woman with how you look. Women are hard on other women. That's why a compliment on my appearance from a woman means more to me than from a man. Which means that women are less picky about women's looks then men are. Totally disagree.

Because my girl friends always have a compliment and they tell me I'm good looking (not because I was fishing or they feel they need to make me feel better). However, I feel it's a struggle sometimes to get dates. Guys seem to favor my other girl friends.

somedude81 Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 Totally disagree. And your counter argument...?
iris219 Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 And your counter argument...? It was in my last post. Women judge other women harshly.
mesmerized Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 In other words, almost all women that men think are hot, women do too. Though not all women that women think are hot, do men agree with. Which means that women are less picky about women's looks then men are. Not really. I often find myself disagreeing with my guy friends on women's looks. I think it depends. I think women tend to find a womanly classy look more attractive and men, at least the ones in their 20s, are more after the porn actress type or college chick look. At least that's what gets them hard
Imported Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 Some people can walk into a room filled with 100 people of the opposite sex and 50 to 100 of those people will think they are attractive. Do it 100 different times and have the same result. Some people can walk into a room filled with 100 people of the opposite sex and even after repeating it 100 different times, only have 1 person total think they attractive. So, attraction is subjective. However, some people have a more universal appeal.

Look at the women on the covers of women's magazines. Surely they are there to look amazing and inspiring to the women who would be buying them. They don't look as great to us guys. I (and a good number of my friends) think that they are just too thin. On a related note: We also hardly get your obsession about "looking fat in those jeans" because (i) we hardly notice, and (ii) we probably like the extra curves anyway.
FitChick Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 Sarah Jessica Parker. A lot of people actually consider her ugly yet she is a model, actress and even a sex symbol. Sex symbol to whom? Lesbians? 1
Failboy Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 However, I feel it's a struggle sometimes to get dates. Guys seem to favor my other girl friends. Which is why they tell you how good you look. If you were getting all the male attention and ****ing guys they would have liked for themselves, they'd hate your guts. You can take that to the bank. Similiar with my female hairdresser. Ever since a friend told her that I totally can't get a girl to save my life, she's like "hello sexy" and stuff. Not because she actually wants me, of course.

Beauty really is subjective. I don't like the "ken" looking guys, I don't think my taste in men are shared by a lot, but it's still what I like. I'd be careful about what a gf is telling you also, when was the last time you told your girlfriend "hun, I don't think you look that great".
Author happythroughout Posted February 10, 2013 Author Posted February 10, 2013 Beauty is subjective. I guess what I mean is I don't care as much if others don't find me appealing as long as the guy I like or want to get with finds me that.
