StanMusial Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 I've seen several posts mention "Meetup". Is that another dating site? I thought that was something different but I've never done anything with it so I'm not sure.
DC4 Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 It's for all kinds of things. Book clubs, sports related things, movies, music, etc. And oh yes, there are lots of singles related Meet Up groups. I've been to a few and was not impressed. 1
Author StanMusial Posted January 13, 2013 Author Posted January 13, 2013 OK, thanks. I went and checked it for my area. There's all kinds of clubs on there. Probably all single people because they have more free time.
El Brujo Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 There are Meetup groups that are fun or helpful, and there are others which are lousy. It depends on the organizers. It took a while for singles and daters to figure out they could start their own Meetup groups, but now they're so popular that they aren't going away any time soon. It's been my experience that the overwhelming number of singles Meetup groups are nightclub-oriented, however I've been to a few exceptions like potlucks and costume parties which I really enjoyed and there was no alcohol. Understandably, OLDS operators aren't too crazy about Meetup groups... 1
TheZebra Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 I've been thinking of joining some meetup groups in the future. Practically all of my friends moved away from this city after college, and it'd be nice to meet new people. If they're single guys it's an even bigger plus. It seems interesting, that's for sure.
mario_C Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 Meetup is awesome not just for socializing but for networking for business, finding other people who do things you like to do, and yes, dating. Beats sitting around here posti-oh, wait...
Star Gazer Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 Meetup is NOT a dating site. It is a website where people with mutual interests "meet up" to share in those mutual interests. I belong to a few, primarily recreational (skiing, hiking, whitewater, etc.). Yes, there are single people in those groups, just as there are married or other committed people in those groups. I do not recommend joining the meetups for purposes of finding a date; singles can smell an ulterior motive a mile away, and those folks quickly get ostracized. Rather, join groups you sincerely have an interest in joining, and to meet new people (as in friends, male and female, married and single, etc.), and if you meet someone special, great. But don't make that a reason to join.

POF singles meets in my area have started to include the singles meetup groups but I gotta say, these people in the groups live up to their group name. Single. They show no real indication they actually want a relationship. At all. I went to one & they all know each other & have known each other for a very long time & for a group of people supposedly looking for a relationship that just seems off for some reason.
