trevjim Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Ok so long story short, I broke up with ex of 2 and half years, day later she started seeing guy, i was told to stay away from the house, her, my step child i helped raise etc for no apparent reason. i did agree to pay half rent as my name is on the lease when i believed it was just her and the child, but when the new guy came and i got told he was going to be the dad and i wasnt allowed to see the kid, i said no im not gonna pay anymore, if he is the dad he proves it and steps up to the plate. 6 weeks went past and the new guy is moving in next month, the ex wants to meet me tonight, to talk about me paying for this month or they will take me to court.... Any advice on how to approach the situation? I dont want it too turn nasty
fixing Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Honestly, i would tell her to F### off. Heartless cow. Im not sure what country your in as legal proceedings vary big time. Call me immature, but i would laugh down the phone at her if it were me. I understand you want to see the step son, but seriously you need to move on from them all.
Author trevjim Posted January 8, 2013 Author Posted January 8, 2013 Im thinking of saying, look i know my name is on the lease but the situation has changed, ive also got text to prove you told me to stay away, i dont have access to house or child, ive got reciepts for the furniture and kitchen units that say i paid for them, ive paid for the last 6 weeks when i wasnt living there...go ahead take me to court But i think my name being on the contract over rules all my points
fixing Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Lol, sir, you were not even living there? Why on earth pay for rent in a place you were forced to leave? Forget court, i think any judge would look at the facts presented and sling it out. Seriously, i dont even think you should meet her man. Sent her a text sorry, I AM NOT PAYING FOR A HOUSE I DIDNT LIVE IN. And go no contact.
Author trevjim Posted January 8, 2013 Author Posted January 8, 2013 I think UK courts tend to go with contract as opposed to any other factors
itsmyfault Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 pay this months rent but inform the landlord you wish to leave. Then tell this girl that she has 1 month to find somewhere else to live.
fixing Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 A Majistrate has the decision to award the rent or not by there discretion. If your ex made you move out and move another boyfriend straight in to stay, given your text messages it will be thrown out. Plus it will take loads of months to even go to court.
Chi townD Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Talk to the landlord and get your name off the lease. You may have to pay to make that happen, but I speculate that it won't be 6 months worth of rent. Talk to a lawyer and follow his/her advice to the tee. Don't get stuck in a legal battle.
