movingon12 Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 This just happened to my husband - I don't think there's anything more to it than a girl trying it on, but he's concerned there might be some ulterior motive, and I'm curious to get second opinions. (He's black, we live in Asia, he was in the shopping centre downstairs) girl - How are you? husband - what? (he wasn't sure if he was talking to him or someone else) g - do you live here? h - why do you want to know? g- I see you all the time, do you live here? h - yes g - what do you do? h - that's none of your business. why are you asking me this? g - I want to know. I'm a student. h - good for you. g - lets go for a drink. h - with who? g - me, go for a drink with me. h - no. g - why??!!!!!? don't you like asian girls? h - no, I'm not that kind of guy. g - why? do you have a girlfriend???!!! h - I have a wife g - oh sorry. she then literally RUNS off to a group of men who are standing in the corner of the shopping centre and they have a conversation. Like I said, I think she was just chatting him up, but he thinks she was trying to set him up. I realise none of us were there so we'll never know, but what do you think - innocent or not?

Who knows why, it could have been a 'dare' for her, she might have been just joking around and getting a kick out of it. Or worse, trying to set him up for horrible reasons. Thankfully your hubby handled it well; it could have turned out much different. 1

Especially if there are no other Black people in the city, he may have been an enigma to her. Not many in the city, and no one else in the area we live in. So it is definitely common for him to get hit on for that reason alone (the other week there were 2 girls standing behind him and one started saying - in English - "mmmm, I just LOVE dark chocolate". They were in a stationery shop at the time so he assumed it was aimed at him.) Anyway, he thought it was weird the way she ran off to the other guys at the end and thought maybe they had planned to jump him or something if he'd gone somewhere with her. I don't know, it seems a bit unlikely to me.
