NYC-BigKat Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 I'm still so so upset about this 'cause I was supposed to be working at this small firm a few miles away & now they call me this evening & say they just reviewed my app again & saw that I got no driver's license & he asks me why & I tell him & then he says I need to get a license by the end of next month to start work & I cant 'cause I cant drive good! I already took 2 road tests & failed both so I dont wanna keep wasting $$ & failing but now I cant even get a job with the company that was gonna give me the job last week. I tried to reason with the man on the phone but he wont budge at all & its hurting my stomach so much that I gotta belly ache now. Why is driving license so so so important?! I dont get it .
mammasita Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 Why don't you invest in a drivers training class. If you can't swing that, ask friends and family for lessons.
TaraMaiden Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 ......... Why is driving license so so so important?! I dont get it . Because if it's a job that requires you drive for them, the insurance on you would be astronomical. if it's a job requirement, they usually need applicants who fit the criteria..... 1
Author NYC-BigKat Posted December 28, 2012 Author Posted December 28, 2012 Because if it's a job that requires you drive for them, the insurance on you would be astronomical. if it's a job requirement, they usually need applicants who fit the criteria..... So um..insurance is cheaper if I drive alot? The company never said to me anything about driving a car for them. My job was supposed to consult with different clients at the office site & maybe another 1 or 2 but they didn't say where's your driving license at when I applied & when I interviewed & got the job so why now? Did they think it over or something weird?
TheZebra Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 Sounds like the job requires travel, which means you also probably need a car?
Author NYC-BigKat Posted December 28, 2012 Author Posted December 28, 2012 How old are you? Serious question. Um...24 why?
ThaWholigan Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 Um...24 why? You don't seem like a 24 year old. I mean, there are times where I am not as manly or adult-like as I should be but I read your posts and I really wonder..... You should have taken the job in Conneticut. Why didn't you? 1
kaylan Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 Um...24 why? Thought you were like 18/19 from the way you usually post. 1
Fondue Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 What part of NYC do you live? This is going to sound weird as hell, but I am trying to be more of a gentleman these days-- even to my fellow gentlemen. If you need help learning how to drive, I may be willing to help you out. 1
charlietheginger Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 If someone told me they failed a driving Test 2 times . I would not hire that person For even a clerical desk job... A driving test is a no brainer imo Driving should be as simple as lacing Your shoes and walking... 3 point turn Cone weaving Stopping breaking The rest is all signs and signals Pretty basic stuff
Author NYC-BigKat Posted December 28, 2012 Author Posted December 28, 2012 You don't seem like a 24 year old. I mean, there are times where I am not as manly or adult-like as I should be but I read your posts and I really wonder..... You should have taken the job in Conneticut. Why didn't you? Ok let me tell u what happen in connecticut ok. They talked to me & wanted to know so many things about past jobs & I never stayed at any of them long u know but they kept wanting to know & stuff & wanting to know the people that worked with me & the managers & stuff & thats crazy 'cause its such a long time ago I dont remember. Anyway after the interview they said they still gotta interview other people so I dont even got the job yet & when I ask about the pay they smile & say not yet .

Just 'cause u passed so fast dont mean everyone else will like u ok & the last time I took the test there was 13 people & 6 failed so I'm not alone ok. I know how to turn the wheel & stuff but I get a mean instructor that gives me points just 'cause I drive slow or I have lots of trouble parking the car and its not normal parking ok its parallel. I hate driving anyway so I shouldn't be forced to just to get a job when I'm gonna be in a office anyhow . 1
charlietheginger Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 I guess you need to invest in driving Classes. Im in florida most kids take drivers ed At age 16 17. CarrieT Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 Okay but I dont understand why its a job requirement when it never said so on the app when I filled it out & I'm gonna be in the office not driving on the roads alot. Did you ask why? You might have a potential lawsuit if they offered you a job and then rescinded it.

Accept nothing less from yourself. You can do it. Believe in yourself. Edited December 28, 2012 by skydiveaddict 1

Where I live you get immediately bombed if you touch the curb at all during parallel parking attempts. Not all states have this. This alone made it difficult for me to get a license, when statistically speaking, most people cannot parallel park and will attempt to park further before doing so. My husband's grandmother like's to brag about how she's been driving 70 years and never once learned to parallel park. Anyways, I can see the OP's frustration if the need for a vehicle and license wasn't stipulated in the job requirements. 1
MuscleCarFan Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 So um..insurance is cheaper if I drive alot? The company never said to me anything about driving a car for them. Did they think it over or something weird? Like the others have said, it sounds like you need to travel for your job, hence the driver's license needed. Practice with friends and family so you can get your license.
Author NYC-BigKat Posted December 28, 2012 Author Posted December 28, 2012 Does the job involve traveling? That's the only reason I can understand it Um...he never said. When I was on the interview last week & got the job this other guy told me that the job entails being in the office on conference calls & working from 2 or 3 different sites each month but that's all he said & he didn't even ask if I knew how to drive. This crap comes up yesterday & I'm so so pissed about it 'cause it seems that they wanna change their minds on me now for no good reason .
Got it Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 Legally unless the job requires a license because you need to drive for them, it is illegal to require you to have a license. What they can require is that you have a reliable form of transportation to get to and from work. They may ask you that question but not if you have a license. But this requirement, especially not spelled out in the beginning can seen as a form of discrimination. If a job requires a license, because you need to drive for the position, the recruiter, or first contact person should clearly lay that out and if that is the case, ask you is there any reason that you would not be able to obtain a license or drive for us. Please go to EEOC Home Page for more information. 2
FitChick Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 This reminds me of an episode of Peep Show series 8 where Mark had to take three trains and two buses to try to sell something to a prospective client, who turned him down. He can't drive.
Shaun-Dro Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 Okay but I dont understand why its a job requirement when it never said so on the app when I filled it out & I'm gonna be in the office not driving on the roads alot. There's no excuse why you have no driver's license. It should definitely be a requirement no matter where you're employed because it demonstrates the basic level of competence, which you clearly lack, so get it together! 1
