For all you fact-loving rocket scientists (from the USC Adolescent Health Curriculum website... yes, yes I know you're all far more knowledgeable than a bunch of silly physicians and phds but at least you can't say it's my "opinion")...

"The beginning of the increase in growth velocity is about age 11 in boys and 9 in girls but varies widely from individual to individual.

The peak height velocity occurs at a mean of 13.5 years in boys and 11.5 years in girls."

Fully grown at 11 or 12? Maybe as far as height goes, but that's it.

Sick.

I have a 13 yr old niece, yes she is developing and she is a cute girl but if a 19 yr old was looking at her, or thinking they have ANYTHING in common, I would puke.

A guy in COLLEGE and a girl in MIDDLE SCHOOL.

Seriously? Yeah, that's so totally the same!

Actually they are very similar and fraught with sexual experimentation.

Yet most full grown women have the stature of a child.

eh?? stature??

stat·ure

/ˈstaCHər/

Noun

  • A person's natural height: "she was small in stature".

You might want to have a looksie at a dictionary, stature and is height so a full-grown woman would have the height of a full-grown woman.

I hope you are smart enough to understand that "peak height velocity" does not mean "fully grown" by any means. And "height" is not the only thing we take into account when measuring one's physical maturity.

Grow up!!!

and most women are child size. Some might prefer fun size if they like thinking of women as sexual candy. You partake in one and move on to the next.

I think you may want to heed your own advice. You clearly have zero experience with any of this but are, for some strange reason, incredibly bent of out shape over something that has nothing to do with you. You might want to actually read the rest of that info on that page and educate yourself a bit since you think the US system is so flawed (for the record, the bulk of my education..all of my post grad in fact.. in this area was received abroad). You are totally entitled to your opinions but your obnoxiousness (Grow up!! yourself) is completely out of line and unwarranted. If you don't want your sons and daughters kissing anyone at 13 or 19, I suggest you make sure not to let them leave the house without you. You're in for a really rough ride if you think you're going to be able to stop them otherwise.

I really can't believe you've gotten your knickers in such a twist over some stranger's girlhood "sweetheart". You might want to take a moment to examine why your feelings on this matter are so over the top.

Acceleration is not the same as top speed.

Did either of you actually look at the page? or read any of the previous posts? My original comment on this matter is that girls are generally fully grown at 11 or 12. Whether that was a fact was questioned by certain posters. I know exactly what peak growth velocity is, it's the point at which growth is occurring most rapidly. It usually follows with a rapid diminution and then cessation, generally within a year...leaving most girls fully grown at 11 or 12. I'm sorry you don't understand what you're reading, but I do. :)

I also know that this information reaffirms what I've said about the difference in development rates btwn human males and females. Sorry to bother you all with those silly, independently corroborated, facts. I'll try to keep it simpler for you in the future. ;)

edgygirl, i am kinda curious now ... why did your parents/guardians allow you to date that 19yr old ?

Did anyone react to this in a bad way ?

I'm not bent out of shape. I don't even care about that kiss and didn't even mention it once. You made a claim and posted a quote that you thought proves that claim. I just let you know that it doesn't. The average "velocity" of height growth doesn't mean what you said.

Nice attempt at covering your mistakes.

But it's understandable. If I had made such a bonehead move myself that fully illustrated how ignorant I was, I would scramble like crazy to save my dignity.

Oh wait...I just wouldn't make such a boneheaded move in the first place.

Some parents don't care. I know a girl who dated a 16 year old when she was 12. Developmentally speaking her equal would have been 14 at most.

There have been no mistakes on my part, no need to cover anything up. I suggest you go dig up your highschool biology text (the one you probably never bothered to open lol!) and have peek at the information on this subject. You clearly haven't read my posts, that page, or anything to do with the very subject in question. Good luck educating yourself.

Guys come on... why so nervous and overreaction?

I was going to point out that my father wasn't that happy about me going on a couple of dates at that age, but it was a less than 1-month thing anyway, I "broke up" with this guy as I went on vacation to my older's sister's marriage and I was never that interested anyway, I never been into older guys, not then and not after that.

Although my father was surprised I went on 1-2 dates, he also probably knew that he and my mom gave me a good education and that I wouldn't do something stupid as going to bed with someone at that age. And I didn't. Not then and not for many years to come. Not sure how my parents would have proceeded if I had continued to see this guy though.

Honestly I don't really understand why a guy would go after a 13 yo, but at the same time, having gone through it, I must say that at the time it felt very innocent to me and I don't recall it being sexual in nature at all. Not sure I'd like my daughter to date at that age though. Girls should be girls for as long as possible.

Well you can find scientists talking about girls maturing faster than guys all over the internet and I'd be surprised if you didn't feel it yourself while growing up.:

"To further illustrate how a teen's changing brain chemistry often molds their behavior, Dr. Brizendine invited ABC's 20/20 to listen as she spoke to students at the Marin School outside San Francisco. Girls, she explained, mature faster than boys, and girls' brains are as much as two years ahead during puberty.

In fact, neuro-imaging shows that, early on, the typical teen girl has a stronger connection between the areas of the brain that control impulse -- the amygdala -- and judgment -- the prefrontal cortex.

It may not be until late adolescence or their early 20s that boys' brains catch up to their girl peers."
