Just had a talk with the guy I liked, he said he was too busy but still wants to try and make it work.

I feel like there's more to it. I don't think he's emotionally available...he might be dating around, as am I so that isn't exactly the big deal. He's in his mid 40s and he's been cheated on previously (at least that's why he says)...he expresses that he wants to settle and have a family. Im not looking to rush into anything and thank god I didn't sleep with him last time we seem to like each other very much.

How do I get him to open up?

You can't get him to open up, unless he decides to.

From what little you've told about him in this post, he seems to be the typical emotionally unavailable man (he does not have to be dating around to be E.U). The "I'm too busy" is a typical excuse, and it's going to set up for a pattern of lazyness and you doing all the work/chasing in the pseudo-relationship, while he gets all the benefits/sex and then drops you like a hot pot as soon as you start demanding the things that are expected of both partners in a relationship.

I'd stay away from this one, but that's just my $0.02.

Yeah, and his saying he wants to settle and start a family might be future-faking.

Be careful here. If he were really interested, then he'd make the time for you.

In this case, pay attention to his actions, not his words.
