I live in a major metropolitan area, according to the last census there were about a million people in my town (but that was before the economy crashed and many started moving away for jobs). I was wondering, for those who live in small towns, rural communities, and remote areas, how do they get out if they want to meet new people? The Internet is there, of course, for whatever it is you're looking for, but how exactly do they get out and meet others if not a prearranged meeting time thanks to the Internet? Just curious.

We meet people the same way you do.

I've managed to meet new people through my job, so I've made new friends that way. Making close friends is easier in a small town. I always have something to do because I know a lot of people. I run into people I know pretty much everywhere I go, which can get annoying.

I used to think dating was harder here, but I've learned that dating is difficult everywhere if you're over 30.

I don't do OLD. It wouldn't work here (not sure it works anywhere).

I live in a small area, and to meet new people I would try to get involved in things I'm interested in, like fun sports leagues, drama groups, or volunteering.
