1. There are a lot more people applying to jobs than there are open positions

2. Some employers only hire based on employee referrals

3. Some employers only hire internally

4. You have to wait for someone to quit, get fired, or promoted to find a job.

5. Some employers interview process have three rounds which makes your chances slim of getting hired

So with all this is there really a surprise why people are unemployed for more than 6 months to a year??? Depressing

I have been able to start 4 new jobs in 2012 and turned down two other job offers. None of these jobs are retail or fast food. Plus I have seen what you have been offered for a job so I am far off on pay either. I have only recieved one job on a refferal and was hired on the spot(goverment job) due to my experience before my interview so I don't really agree. However I have taken a lower paying job not to be able to work from home.

There are more people than and very few openings

Good Night

It may be your location.

For example I could never get a job in my home town but never had a problem landing them 3 hours away.

Definitely agree with location:

Where I live there is a huge population. And hence, more people than there are jobs. Making the market more competitive.

Since my area is filled with tech companies, we have a lot of foreigners filling jobs and more educated people, so a bachelors isn't as competitive here when so many people have Master's and PhD's.

I've only recently begun job searching here, so I cannot think of anything else other than what is in the OP.

6) You get angry at an interview date being changed because you want to get a haircut on that day.

Oops...

You just been reported

What's up with that, Dude? Just a comment.

Whatever, that list could be a list from 20 or 10 or 5 years ago, probably even 50 or 60. The demand for workers in different occupations swells and ebbs depending on the economic climate and location. Up in my neck of the woods, construction is still pretty strong as is other skilled trade. Other occupations have seen a big slump. All cyclical. Sometimes you just have to change your occupation or relocate to find the right opportunity.

No point dissing folks and reporting people just because you don't happen to like what they say when all they're doing is commenting on things that you've brought up yourself. Chill, Dude, and have a Merry Christmas or whatever.

I'm reporting anyone who is provoking me to say something nasty, including you

The truth can be nasty. Many of us have given considerable time and energy to giving you heartfelt suggestions - many of which you ignore - and your best and only response has been "I'm reporting you for being nasty."

We aren't nasty, Dude. We see the problem for what it is (your attitude) but you can't seem to face that fact.

But when I respond back people on here can't handle it and go and report me like a little girl. So it's no point in anything anymore

Call me reportman for now on

Is this a joke or something? Some one wrote the same post in different message board. The funny thing is the person played the same game, pretending he was angry and was threatening to report other members to the mods about comments they made.

OP do you know a person with the handle "TVandSportsGuy" Google the name and you'll find him. I swear it is so strange, you must be the same person. Why would you waste time asking the same questions, act angry over the responses, and threaten to report members to mods? How do you expect to find a job when you waste time duplicating this BS on the internet?

Yes, many people are having a difficult time finding work.

When encountering any challenge, I always like to list out all of the modifiable and non-modifiable factors. It looks like you have a solid list of non-modifiable factors. Good job. Now, what modifiable factors are in your control to overcome these challenges?

In business, there is something called a competitive advantage. When it comes to employment, I believe that finding your competitive advantage can help give you an edge. One major advantage is preparation. Many potential employees do not research and prepare adequately. That may be one way to set yourself apart from the competition. What other skills do you have that could give you an advantage? :)

It doesn't matter what skills you have if there is

1. Lots of compeitition

2. Long hiring process that involves 3 rounds of interviewing

Well, okay.

Basically, if those are the non-modifiable factors in your field, there is nothing that can be done. Therefore, there is no need to dwell up on those factors, outside of recognizing that they exist and need to be overcome.

I would like to give you a homework assignment :)

Please watch this entire video. It is by Napoleon Hill, recognized as the father of success philosophy. Basically, all of the personal improvement gurus such as Zig Ziglar, Stephen Covey, Brian Tracey, have relied upon his teachings. I think it will give you some ideas. The video isn't flashy (its old school) but the material is excellent. Best to you...
