So seeing as it's near Christmas this sounds like a good topic. Many of us are actively dating around/starting new relationships or trying to keep ones that are a few months old going (or perhaps a bit of both). What are the rules of gift giving?

According to this mens website it has some rules which are pretty sensible for both genders.

This womans website has some rules as well.

In my experience these are the rules to follow.

1.) A gift cannot make someone who's not interested interested.

2.) The total lack of a gift, card, ecard or any thought at all on a holiday or birthday can make someone who's somewhat interested think twice and/or loose interest.

On the whole one is better off giving a small gift than giving no gift at all unless they are sure the person is not interested at all. I am not a believer in the idea that a couple needs to be official before gifts may be exchanged.

bump I know there has to be someone interested in this topic. In two weeks it will be crucial that one picks the right gift. Not too much not too little.
