GirlontheLam Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 Dessert is an interesting idea. Could be a nice short-date that isn't coffee, with potential for more if things hit off. I don't know if she's a coffee drinker; I'm not but I'm open to trying (or getting hot chocolate or something else). Thanks for the suggestion! I am a tea nerd too. I love going tea tasting. It is cheap even at the really expensive places. You can share, and have a couple of snacks. If you are lucky, you'll get a really knowledgable person who can fill you in on all of the details of the tea harvest and prep. I have a blast every time I go to the tea shop, either drinking the tea or people watching. Also, go to breakfast in a fun neighborhood. Breakfast/brunch tend to be cheaper. And if you have fun, you can walk around on main street and check out the shops. Bookstores are really fun on a date. You each pick out interesting books. Either hang out in the humor section and tell each other jokes. Look at magazines (picture heavy ones) and laugh at the ridiculous clothing or ogle the vacation spots. You can go to a used bookstore and laugh at the covers of romance novels, and make up the plot based on the title. They are hours of amusement, and you can find out quite a lot about someone based on the book. Head over to Barnes, grab a coffee and hit your favorite section. 1
GirlontheLam Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 My very first date in college was a hike followed by ice cream. If the weather is bad, ditch the walk. Ice cream is popular even in the dead of winter and will run you no more than $5-10. Dessert is another great option, although a little more expensive. Coffee is also a good option in your budget range. My first college date was similar. We walked around main street, went to the music store and then got some ice cream. We had so much fun. (I know, I know, this makes me sound old....you can't even find music stores anymore. ) Another thing that is fun (especially in college) is to crash the events with free food! Mixers and so on. There are so many of them.....is there an alumni building on your campus? They are always doing stuff. International clubs too. But you can always head over to the coffeeshop, bring a deck of cards or a board game, and play and drink at the same time. It is cheap and always a good time! 1
todreaminblue Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 Not cool at all. some people come to financial problems in their lives. what does one do when he was dating when he had a lot of money and then has some money problems for a few months? tell her you can date till you get more money? what you say is nonsense. but also depends how much of a financial problem youre in. Seinfeld said that only 2% of the public is datable. not sponge worthy. huh? where is that 2 per cent why do we need the sponge worthy ...please explain....you confuzzed me.....deb
TheFinalWord Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 huh? where is that 2 per cent why do we need the sponge worthy ...please explain....you confuzzed me.....deb In one episode Elaine (the female friend of Jerry Seinfeld) only has so many sponges (birth control) and she has to decide which of the men she dates are "sponge worthy". It's the crude side of the show. But I never have thought about how much a lot of us on LS fit right into the Seinfeld characters. All the characters would break up and ditch people over the silliest things... Best one...

Author ooglesnboogles Posted December 17, 2012 Author Posted December 17, 2012 Going out today! Hopefully all goes well. Thanks again for all the suggestions! 1
jakelongot Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 1. Italian restaurant with BYOB. Pizza will cost you under $15 and no expensive alcohol to buy 2. Fondu. Ingrediants are super cheap and you get a 3 hour experience of it. 3. Nature hike
Author ooglesnboogles Posted December 18, 2012 Author Posted December 18, 2012 Well, she bailed on me today with a brief, last minute text and I haven't heard from her since. So I dunno what happened. I thought there was something there but I guess I read it wrong or something... Dessert was actually a good idea, at least I got some cookies for later. Much better than bowling by myself. Thanks for the suggestions, hopefully they help someone else.
AMusing Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 Sorry to hear! Hopefully you can use the date ideas on a new girl soon.
Cutiepie1976 Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 Best one... Why would he be pro-choice? ...well, because he's so good-looking? lol Love Seinfeld! One of my favorite shows! That and Arrested Development. Couldn't find a clip, but my favorite breakup: Jerry's girlfriend wears the same dress every time he sees her. He purposely spills wine on her dress and while she's changing, he decides to rummage through her closet to see if she owns any other outfits. She of course catches him and breaks up.
Cutiepie1976 Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 :lmao: OMG, that was so hilarious!! Haha!:lmao: I haven't laughed that hard in ages! I thought he was totally screwed when he got in the cab with $4 and change. Poor blind man! lol! Anti-weed Mary Jane dating a dope dealer! Dave Chappelle is one of the funniest comedians ever. Every aspect of that encounter was to die for funny! How on earth did I not know this movie existed?!? *sigh* Another to add to the list!

Think of this as a dress rehearsal or dry run...practice for the real thing. Glad you at least had some dessert.

We were all rooting for you and hoping things went well. The suggestions made here will help you with another girl in the future. Don't let this discourage you too much; I know you were really excited. Hang in there - the next one is right around the corner 1
Author ooglesnboogles Posted December 18, 2012 Author Posted December 18, 2012 Thanks for the kind words! I'm definitely trying to think of it as her missing out: 1 on a good guy, 2 on those really awesome cookies. I'm not much of a dessert person but they were pretty damn good Good enough consolation prize. Thanks again for all the suggestions. They'll come in handy sometime.

It is cheap and always a good time! Haha, the current bf and I used to do this all the time in college too, and we still do now that we've both graduated! Not as often as we used too, though, sadly - grad school and work takes a toll on how much we get to hang out all day (I miss college!). But it's definitely awesome and cheap fun. You'll find a great girl who isn't gonna flake on you someday, and when you do, you won't have to rack your brain on what to do for the first date anymore. Attaboy! 1

PogoStick Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 Mini-golf and towards the end, bet the next date on a single hole . It's a sneaky way of assuming the next date with her, and you can always let her win. Or you can win it and see how well she handles the situation and follows through. Can give a good indication of her interest level if she actually takes you out the 2nd time. Joke how much lobster is your favorite.
