youdunsay Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 I watched Scent of a Woman and it suddenly struck me the dying chivalrous yet gentlemanly mannerism from men in our present days. That being said, does a gentleman boyfriend usually evolves into a gentlemanly husband? Is it really important how your boyfriend treats you and you treat your boyfriend vice versa because that determines how your marriage works if both you get married/
Balzac Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 I believe it's important. I also believe that factoring in age appropriate maturity is a factor.
BetrayedH Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 Many say that past behavior is the best predictor of future behavior. That said, we men are taught how to date a woman quite well and in the early days of infatuation, it's easy to do. We should be given a handbook on what to do after we say, I do. It's easy to become complacent. I still think your odds are much better if you start with someone that knows how to behave like a gentleman. I wouldn't put much faith into any man becoming one after he's gotten married. 2

I'm always amazed at the number of women that look at their man as a project, one who will somehow be subject to improvement after marriage... Mr. Lucky 1
carhill Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 That being said, does a gentleman boyfriend usually evolves into a gentlemanly husband? IMO, it's individual. If the boyfriend's global behaviors are what you consider to be 'gentlemanly' and consistent over time, then it's reasonable to anticipate that historically consistent behavioral sets will continue. It's important to observe and/or receive anecdotal information from interactions with others. With you, he's infatuated, in love, sexually attracted, etc, etc. With others, they see his base behavioral patterns. Is it really important how your boyfriend treats you and you treat your boyfriend vice versa because that determines how your marriage works if both you get married IMO, don't even consider marriage unless you're enthusiastically positive about both your relationship and your boyfriend. Nothing in life is a sure thing, except death. Everything has elements of the unknown and can be risky. Romance is right up there. If this topic and/or others are on your mind post-proposal, get some PMC and clarify what's important to you (and him). Good luck.

How he behaves towards you as a boyfriend is the biggest indicator there is of how he'll treat you as a husband - good or bad.
