I plan on starting a new job some time after New Year's day... I won't let on exactly what it is, but my chances of getting it are pretty good because I'm the only person in my area who's willing to do it, and because it gives me a reason to invest in a new wardrobe (I'll be dealing with a LOT more people face to face). It will also give me a LOT more free time, and a chance to become my own boss and make even more money. The only downside is, you need to do a lot of planning for this job.

I admit I'm a fat dude, but at 6'6" I don't look Jabba-the-Hutt fat... luckily I sent off for a couple of new shirts to begin with, and I think they look pretty good on me. They only come in white, light sky blue, and cornflower blue, which is fine with me because blue is my favorite color and looks more businesslike anyways. So I bought the light sky blue shirts, then found a really good solid royal-blue tie cheap. I think the new tie and shirts look great with my navy blue slacks. I didn't buy a jacket though, because I don't feel cold even outside in winter, and besides, I'd look like a Mafia don in a coat or a blazer.

Question to the ladies: do blue clothes make a man look more "gentlemanly"? I just don't like wearing other colors like green or brown.

Black pants, white shirt, solid black tie. Don't wear any stupid **** like a fedora or a tie clip and you'll be fine.

I don't think the color blue has much signifgance to how you dress. If you opted for a red suit or something very loud, that's saying something unprofessional. But as long as you keep it toned down, it should be ok.

OP, I do not like light/sky blue dress shirts. In fact, I abhor them. They are such a turn-off for me, and I can't really explain why. It just looks like something that maybe my 66 year old dad might wear. It does not seem to me to be a very fashionable colour. Royal blue tie is fine, depending on the colour of the shirt you are wearing with it. Personally, I really love seeing a man in silver or black dress shirts. Black can be a bit too much if you're also wearing a suit jacket, but if you're not wearing a black jacket on top, then I'd say that a black shirt with black dress pants, and a tie that gives a nice contrast (maybe silver , or a nice shade of red) is pretty HOT. Silver shirt with black tie is also very nice. I also don't like shirts with stripes (unless the stripes are barely visible) or ties with designs/patterns. I 'm a bit picky when it comes to dress shirts, I'm afraid.

Blue, black and grey are your basic suit colors. Brown and olive are okay if you can carry it off. A lot depends on your skin tones as far as what looks good on you.

Keep it simple. My closet is full of white shirts with a few blue and white/blue stripe. If I'm feeling crazy I wear a pink shirt (because I live life on the edge).

(I look horrible in greens, yellows and browns). If you want to add some color to your outfit, do it with your tie. That's what they're for (besides getting stains at lunch time).

Ah well... at least I knew that royal blue tie was a find when I saw it. BTW no striped or plaid shirts for me... there are some pretty good deals on plaid shirts, but plaid makes me look like a lumberjack who just walked in from the woods.
