We have a movie date planned in a few days and she texted me saying she has a gift card for a theatee and have I seen x movie so we should see it. I texted back joking with her but I do admit it was partially not to come accross as "nice guy" and let her pick the movie so here goes: "You want movie picker status already?? I don't think so lol! Yeah we could do that if you're treating sounds good! She got offended and said 'My card my pick lol. Who gave you picker status? Your lucky I didn't pick some crappy movie. What should I change it to??'. I felt bad and didn't think she'd get her feelings hurt like that:( I told her it was a joke and and if it offended her jut tell me and she texted back playing it off 'Lol just keeping you in check! Kisses' I feel bad but I do think she overreacted IMO. I mean I said lol after picker status so I don't know how she got so offended?? Is that why she played it off when I told her I was kidding?? So what do yall think? OTT on my end? Overreaction on hers? Little bit of both?

Who said you had movie picker status?? And yeah that's right!!! My gift cards my pick!!! Lol" Me: "x it is lol" Her:"You should be happy I'm not make you see some crappy movie!!! I could do that you know!!! Hmmm I may have to change my pick to something els hmmm what should I pick... Then like I said in the OP about being a joke...

RachR Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 Still sounds like she was playing along to me. This is why joking over text is bad, at least in the early stages, too much is left to interpretation without being able to hear a tone of voice.

Its banter, trust me on this. She played it cool at the end because she was joking - otherwise she would still be mad if she was that offended.

In the early dating scheme, guys are more than likely to suffer a chick flick. Fortunately it's Holly Jolly movie season and many films are general appeal.

Don't get embarrassed, it happens - chalk it up to experience. Keep running jokes like that even. She seemed to be responding - she was probably the opposite of offended. She out-bantered you, that's all .

Yeah and I love that about her! IMO it was a combination text interpretation, being "on edge" due to the work argument, and my insecurity.
