bobsmith76 Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 I'm still a little unsure about this because as a guy I love it when women compliment my looks, I'm guessing other guys feel the same way. However, I have to admit that when a woman writes to me on an OLD website and she says I'm handsome and does not mention my interests that I inevitably suspect she's shallow. I've seen quite a few woman complain about men that compliment their looks when they receive an initial message through OLD, a behavior which I've always found to be a bit absurd. Anyway, I've found a girl not on an OLD website but belongs to a bookclub devoted to reading one of the hardest books in the English Language, Ulysses, ok, so there's a chance she has brains. The bookclub is a bit too far away to travel to on a worknight but I still want to try to get a date with her. I don't know anything about her other than the fact that she likes Ulysses so I really think it's necessary that I mention the fact that I'm writing to her because she's hot and also because I'm guessing she's smart since she's a member of this group. Should I compliment her looks or just leave that part out?

Should I compliment her looks or just leave that part out? I think it's fine to compliment a woman on her looks if: It's not the only thing you mention regarding interest. It's not the first thing you mention while listing other attractive qualities. You don't use words like "Hot", "Smokin", or any other slang terms to convey physical attraction.Another point to make is that (generally speaking) the better looking a woman finds the man to be then the more acceptable/receptive your comment about appearance will be. If the woman doesn't find the guy to be physically attractive then the more likely it is she'll find the gesture to be "Creepy" or "Shallow".
iiiii Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 I'd say leave it out. She already knows you think she is good looking, since you're messaging her on an OLD site. If you didn't think she was attractive, you wouldn't message her. If you mention her looks in the first message you send, she might assume that your interest is pretty superficial.
