What is the proper protocol for a woman who is engaged to handle a creepy guy at work who emails her, flirts with her, instant messages her, etc (whatever the case)? (Creepy guy can be attractive, doesn't matter)

Should she:

A) Ignore him

B) Tell him to stop

C) Flirt back harmlessly

D) Play along harmlessly

E) One word answers to give him the hint

F) Report him to Manager/HR

You don't have to choose anything I've listed if you have a specific answer. Just curious as to the way these things SHOULD be handled. Thanks!

As a certified work creeper myself, I feel like I can help shed some light on the situation.

First and foremost, I would ignore him. Perhaps he'll get bored and stop.

The next step would be to tell him, privately, that his behavior isn't work appropriate and that you need him to tone it down.

From there, continue to stand firm and tell him that his tone isn't work appropriate and that it makes you feel uncomfortable. More importantly, document it. If he still doesn't stop after you've been repeatedly telling him that you want him to keep it more professional, then you will have a body of evidence to go to HR with.

Definitely DO NOT flirt back or play along if you want HR to take your complaint seriously. If you don't like his flirtations, you need to be direct and firm (but polite) with how you respond. Don't give him any signals that he could misinterpret.

Ive been in this situation. The BEST thing to do is ask him to stop. If he doesn't, then elevate to HR.
