Two Types of Young People, Am I Unique?

So over recent years I have come to notice that there are two main traits that young people seem have; the majority like to go out, get drunk, party and get all of the recent 'goss'. The polar opposite I have noticed are those that do not care for such things. Without wishing to be offensive, I have noticed that this latter group tend to be slightly inept socially.

 

Now this is where I feel that I am slightly unique. I have no interest in the whole drinking and partying culture but I wouldn't call myself socially inept or awkward, I am quite comfortable with striking up a conversation with a complete stranger should the situation allow for it. I also have some interests and pass times that, as far as I can tell, are pretty abnormal for someone of my age (20); As I am sure you have guessed I am not one for going out to parties, I enjoy things such as classic cars, metal detecting, local history, internet culture, older music (blues, classic rock, not 'pop chart' stuff etc) and discussing current events.

 

Do you know anyone who is not interested in drinking and partying but is comfortable in a social setting and conversing with people?

 

How about anyone with seemingly unique interests that most young people wouldn't give a toss about and would probably snigger at?

 

I would love to find a partner who is in the same boat that I am but I do understand that it's a somewhat small boat in an extremely large ocean so one final question; would you have any tips on where I might find someone who might be floating around in a similar boat as myself?

 

Yes I have looked for local detecting clubs and there are none and all of the online forum communities for the hobby use such shockingly bad forum software and layouts they just give me a headache. Same thing goes for local car clubs.

I was never into the club or bar scene, but I always found it easy to make friends and have a very active dating life when I was single. I found that dating older men was easier in terms of shared interests. Even my best friends know that I would rather go out for dinner with them than go to a club.

I am the same way. I always liked going out and having fun but drinking until I get alcohol poisoning is not my idea of fun.
