Wow, interesting, this woman in my area had put up a profile without a picture for a time.

Then later, she had uploaded only one basic, cellphone pic of herself, and she received just over 80 emails in an hour.

She said something like that she decided to upload a photo to see how many "shallow" guys email her. lol. Well she has a full inbox, and is now explaining to men, she simply can't get to everyone.

You ever buy anything major, sight unseen? Better be lots and lots of current pictures! What were you or her expecting? "Nicegirl123" could be a dude for all anyone reading a profile knows. At least with some authentic looking pictures, you can expect with some reasonable doubt, that the profile is real. And no, buying something is not like starting relations with a women, but knowing what you're getting yourself into is. Ever do a job interview? Did they hire you based only on an application? Or did you need to go through several interviews? You realize people need to be physically attracted to the other person or it's pointless right? And that is part of the "application" process. Not a big deal. Pretty normal ****, nothing shallow about it.

Many girls in OLD now will put up the body type, but make all their pics private. They'll only show the pics to the guys who email them a well-written message that shows he read her profile and is looking for more than just possible arm candy.

On one hand it does sound elitist, but on the other it does ween away the guys who simply look at pics and email without reading the profiles.

I wonder how many quality responses that woman received when she put up the photo? Versus the "hey, you're hot, let's hook up" messages.

Well, I wouldn't e-mail a guy back that didn't have a photo, either.

Firstly, physical attraction IS important; I think people (or most people) have stopped denying that.

Secondly, in this age of camera-phones and digital photography, everyone has access to photos of themselves, or the ability to take one. I would assume that a person who posts a profile without a photo is hiding something (probably a relationship or a marriage).

So I don't know why this woman in question is acting all shocked.

I never respond to winks or emails from a profile without a pic. It's not shallow I just want to know what I'm dealing with or if I'm attracted in the first place.

I'm not sure how that is elistist at all. It's her body and if she doesn't want a ton of guys oggling her, and only wants serious minded guys to have that information, that sounds pretty smart. It's not like most guys put their financial statements down on online dating.

I had quite a few woman who contacted me without a profile picture. I did take the time and reply and they asked if they can send a picture and I said yes. it so happened that they were attractive in my eyes so I decided to pursue.

when I opened my account quite a while back, I was too embarrassed to upload a photo. I was just browsing for 8 months. after I decided I wanted to find someone, I too posted a picture and got tons of looks and messages. tons! thats how life is. youre ugly, youre out of luck.

we are all shallow and we all want to be with someone attractive. physical attraction is primal. so what the fkkk is the woman trying to prove? she did a test to see how people are shallow but she didnt prove a single damn thing. woman are just the same. no picture, dont contact me. besides saying the want a tall man, the 2nd was dont contact me without a picture.

In fact, I went invisible and checked out the male competition and noticed from both sides, its the woman who noted it in their profiles way more than the men. woman are just, if not more shallow than men.

please send her a PM from me saying I think she's a moron.

A friend of mine did that. The problem was that once she sent her pictures the guys stopped talking to her. I think its better to get the attraction out of the way early even though you would be risking men wanting you just for your looks.

Being interested in what someone looks like and how they choose to present themselves is not superficial. It's normal.

This is the major reason I would advise against anyone responding to a message or profile without a picture. If I traded emails with someone without showing my photo, and contact ended the moment I did send it, that's the most brutal rejection possible. Plus, the person doing the rejecting is made to feel shallow, despite the fact that over 99% of people use looks as one key component of romantic attraction.

Either post photos publicly or include them with any message you send. It's just a decent thing to do.

I don't think it's elitist either to be honest. I think it's mainly a woman (or even a man) looking to connect with someone intellectually first.

True...but everyone is different. I am more a fan of posting nice pics and then let the women who think I'm unattractive not waste either of our time.

However, I'm a man...so I don't think I would ever end up with an inbox full of winks and poorly-written messages from ugly or creepy women.

I have never had an issue with them not posting a pic. There are numerous reasons they dont. The issue is learning who they are about.

Exactly - I'm a strong believer that a brother (or a sister in your case) should have a right to know what he's getting himself into .

Although, I should add, that I've gotten messages from people who didn't have a profile picture and sent me one on request. In some of those cases the women were definitely attractive.
