I got my ex a black Kenneth Cole Reaction dress shirt on his birthday. It looked so nice on him -- nice material (so smooth and soft), nice colour, nice fit (skinny fit).

A vest and a hat? That's a new one on me. You like the Fiddler on the Roof look? or you talking more Larry the Cable Guy? Better not be a leather vest and a tuque, I'll reach right through the internets and give you a schmak I will! ;)

Hahaha

Ok the blazer is overkill and this guy is way too pretty. But something like this:

As for the hat?

Always a classic style: http://chicagomag.com/images/2012/0212/C201202-ST-Theaster-Gates-Kangol-cap.jpg

49, the average woman will have between 20-157,456 pairs of shoes in her closet. They notice them.

So that's why I don't notice men's shoes! Not counting sneakers or golf shoes, I think I have about three pairs.

I think a lot of guys look good in dark colors. I like henley t-shirts and polo shirts the best.

Posted

Also, no short-sleeve shirts (a fashion disaster, IMO) or shirts with pockets..

I don't know about that, polos in the summer time always seem to do well for me.

49,

Get a nice watch with either a metal or leather band. All the higher end department stores carry them. The rang from like $100 to $300 for good ones, and the last forever. The most important thing is you have to feel your clothes, own it if you will. You don't want to be the kid that walks around like mom dressed him and he can't wait to get home and change. O yea, old navy is good for cheap decent looking jeans & undershirts for men.

Oh I see, sweater vests, those look good. As for the hat, I should introduce you to my 65 year old uncle, he has a different one of those for every day of the week, you'd love him.

LOL! One of the few styles that looks dapper on men young and old! I love when I see a little boy in his dress shirt and hat. :)

Don't lie to me, I know about that secret walk in shoe vault behind the false wall in your closet.

Unless you're under 25 or ripped, you should probably grow up and stop wearing t-shirts if you're trying to attract anybody.

This time of year, I'm dressed a lot like this, and get compliments from women I'm dating and female friends about how I'm a goo dresser.

Very nice look Ronin:o And its neat and masculine.

I agree that the clothes should definitely fit the occasion. But whatever the occasion, clothes that look and do fit well really do flatter men's masculine attributes, be it casual or formal occasions. Its the same reason women dress to show their curves. Now if only more men wore boots, thats at least one thing I at least really like on men.

As for hats, I don't wear any unless it's really cold out and I have to wear a winter hat. Or, sometimes I wear an Orioles hat (one is the cartoon bird the other is just an "O's" symbol on the front) simply as a point of pride since I live in Nats territory.

Hats I didn't think really factored into "dressing well".

Well, I do like showing off my biceps and bowling ball shoulders. But it's more about comfort and what I think looks nice on me.

But I'm finding this thread educational.

lol, do you think it's comfortable for women to wear high heels? Or tight dresses? or whatever else it is that women wear these days? Not terribly. But we don't go out in pjs or loose jeans, for the sake of comfort. :p Man up and wear something that makes you look nicer but which might not be as comfy. :p

I've never actually expected women to dress up in any of that. The last girl I "dated" (long story on the quotation marks ) used to wear just jeans and some variation of shirt and one of two pairs of beat up sketchers (one of which was her sister's anyway). And I was head over heels in love with her (still am kind of).

I know, not a typical opinion but I guess I have a warped view of the world.

Thanks,

I didn't really learn to dress myself well, till after the end of my last LTR (couple years back). Before then who ever my girlfriend at the time was kind of dictated my style. After my break up, a couple of female friends taught me how to dress. Now that I know how to dress, and have developed a style that I feel matches my personality, I feel I look a lot better, and I get compliments that reinforce that. I didn't even really know how to handle it at first, when co-workers started commenting on my clothes. I was a deer in the headlights for a little while.

Accessories can be the icing on the cake. :)

Not all are good but....coordinating ones are great. Cuff links. Hats. Watch. All good starting places.

Undershirt + long sleeve button up shirt + sweeter = Me melting.

My issue with all the "dressing well" pictures is that they seem to be for colder climates and or men who can handle wearing a lot of layers.

Where I live, I'm in shorts roughly 300 days a year. Half of the time I do end up wearing jeans, I'm wishing I was wearing shorts because I'm too hot.

Ever tried linen, SD? It's more cool and comfy in hot weather than cotton, and automatically gives you style cred. I pretty much fall in love with a guy in a linen shirt and pants. Linen does have to be thoroughly pressed though, it wrinkles easily.

I don't know if I've tried linen clothes. I really haven't paid attention to what the material was.

I just looked at some pictures for linen pants and shirts, and they don't look any different from cotton ones.

Hah, I would never know which one to pick out.

Once I get some cash, I need to find a girl to go shopping with so she can be my style consultant.

In person, the difference is more notable. Look for 100% linen, or at least linen blends, on clothing tags.

1) It's a good idea to wear colors (especially your shirt) that work OK with your skin tone.

2) Make sure that your shoes are kept clean. Unkempt, raggedy footwear can ruin your entire look. Women notice your shoes, and many of them are good at doing so subtly. If you can afford it, spend a little more money on a good brand of dress shoes. No need to break the bank with Ferragamo or Bruno Magli...but avoid the crap quality stuff at Wal-Mart that only lasts for a year or two. Shoot for something in-between.

The exact same outfit might look good on one person, and terrible on another person.

This, My shoes are all in the $75-$150 range, and will last well over a year even if I had them on 24/7/365.

dsw has decent stuff for men if you have one in your area.

I agree wit this as well, and the best source of honest info is a close single female friend. Once i found a style i was comfortable with, they have always been a great help.

SD, for hotter weather try stuff like this.
