Would you ever join a sports dating site?

For the past few years, I've been thinking that a sports dating site would be really useful and fun to join. But I've only found a few out there, and they don't seem to have that many people on there. I have also tried to join Sports social networks, but they also don't seem to be that popular.

It seems like it would be a good idea, and I often hear people saying they want to use a sports social network to meet new friends.

Has anyone tried a sports dating site? Or are the ones out there not good enough? Or is Match and POF enough for the singles out there, that niche sites can't gain any traction?

Perhaps sports is too narrow a category. But I would think that fit, slim women and men would want to use a specific site to meet each other.

Do you think its easier to date men or woman who share the same sports hobbies and interests; like running, tennis, basketball, yoga, etc.?

If you're athletic, the best way to meet someone who values that too is to join a sports league for the sport you like. Most people are single (the exception is tennis which seems to be mostly married people...ugh!)

If you insist on going the online route, pick one of the big sites and do a key word search while also restricting whatever other criteria matter to you--age range, geography, etc.

I agree... however, JCrew never specified sports vs. atheltic. lol. I'm a heavy set guy. I love watching sports, and I am trying to be more active and working out... but I'm def not atheltic. Then again I don't do dating websites anyway, and am happily (sometimes) taken atm... but if I was single I'd consider joining a sports site... maybe to find a girl who loves the Red Sox and Bruins as much as do, that lives in the Washington DC area of course. lol

Sounds great in theory but really how many girls are going to sign up for it. There was a sports/activity based OLD site in my city and it was 6-7 M for every F.

Well, we aren't talking professional athletes here.;)

Fit, slim women and men (OP's words, not mine) who are into sports tend to play them, not just watch them, and many of these guys belong to at least one league. There are some niche dating sites for those into sports, but the people on there are gym rats who typically also play at least one sport, and are looking for another hard body to date. They were disappointed with the "slim" and the "athletic and toned" specimens on Match, etc.:D

If you're looking to socialize and just watch sports, why not head to a sports bar?

At any rate, congrats on your relationship!:)

Some guys get lucky! There are a couple of national OLD sites for the fitness-obsessed. They're limited in selection though. Sports leagues are fantastic. Great combination of sports and socializing. A few of my friends met their fiances/husbands this way. Some sports leagues have a more even gender mix than others. My flag football team: two women...that's it! Tennis is 60:40. Soccer is even. Running and volleyball: more women than men.

Agree, if you just want to interact online while watching games, that's going to be mostly guys!

No, I do... I was just trying to play devil's advocate. I would never join a dating site anyway. been there, done that, long ago... not for me. there are more things that define me and someone I'm looking for than just sports. They idea in theory sounds good, but in practice I don't know how well it would work. Generally very athletic people don't have to use dating sites. lol

Well, I'm slim and fit, and I've used a dating site. Would happily use one again since I met some really great guys that way. My last few relationships came out of OLD!

Anyway, you have a GF, so it's a moot point.

Yeah, sports leagues seem the best way to socialize. Girls don't have to deal with the male spam, and can better select a man to date. Its safer for the women who value their privacy.

I know a few couples who have also met at a soccer league. Kickball and Dodgeball seem to be popular in some cities.

I was just thinking that everything is online these days. It should be easier to meet other sporty people online. But sporty people are also on the go, and in the gym, rather than in front of their computers.
