unless you have been tested, there is no way of knowing

I don't know why someone WOULDN'T be tested. If you're sexually active you should be going to the gyno once a year. I'm on the pill so I'm required to go to the gyno TWICE a year.

Also, this thread is pretty extensive so I haven't read through everything, but what is wrong with asking for an STD test from a new partner? I myself hate condoms, I prefer to use without and if I meet a new guy and have no clue of his past, who he's been with, how clean or dirty he may be, I'm definitely not going to have unprotected sex until we both get tested and show each other that we're clean.

I guess that's sort of like putting it on "hold" in a way?

But also, I don't know the whole background on this guy so he may be a dick like everyone else is saying.

He told me he wants to put our relationship on hold until I bring proof that i dont have it

Oh jeez. Then he should get tested, too, right? And a few times just in case there are any false negatives, right?

You may be better off putting the relationship on hold until he's no longer a jerk, but don't hold your breath on that one...

I didn't go back to check which post the quote is from, but I'm pretty sure Eleanor was talking about HSV-1, which is usually an oral infection. Your gyno doesn't test for oral infections.

Absolutely nothing. The discussion was about the other strain of herpes, which most people get from kissing, sharing drinks, sharing utensils, etc.

I think this would be a good moment to get myself tested

Maybe I am in the anger/denial mode still but it still has not hit me

Today I interviewed at the program I have loved the most so far and I asked several of the residents what the single scene is like in that city, thereby proclaiming my recently acquired single status

The wisdom of occupational licensing when it comes to physicians should come into question when examples like this emerge...

I know!

Wait till he encounters butthole sores.....he may fall faint and die.

Umm I guess I should update this thread.

I got tested and I DON'T have herpes or anything else!

Also, after a brief reconciliation, we broke up for good.

It has been hard. Not as bad as other breakups but I am doing better than I thought.

I have my weak moments and I post here. I am sure i will have worse moments.

I am trying to enjoy my vacations with all of my friends and be optimistic about the future!
