First Love Troubles

Ok I'm going to try and get it as shorthand simple as possible. I met this girl a year ago and started to date her. Our relationship was amazing, we got along perfectly in every way. Until she decided she wanted to do a semester aboard. She had told me that our relationship was rock soild and would tell me otherwise. I traveled half way across the world to see her over there and instantly knew something was up. We broke up half way through the visit. She says that she doesn't know what she wants in life anymore and needs to be alone to figure things out and that we probably won't get back together. But I think things will be different when she gets back, she even said when she travels she's almost in another life where I'm not as revelant.

 

Basically what should I do? I have already acted like a complete loser to her telling her that shes my dream girl and the only thing that makes me happy. To be honest I fell hard for her and would like to get back with her. To complicate things more her birthday is next month and she says I still can talk to her on her birthday but I'm not sure if I should.

All what I can say is wow. That is scary dead on. I don't know, I guess I just view this as a phase for her and when she returns she will be back into a lifestyle of loneliness, studying and working. While she's out there I know it's a hopeless fight. She's surrounded with a new social circle and exploring the world. I literally would do anything for this girl. Obviously I still deeply care for her and I already told her that I got her a card that I would take pics of and send to her. My questions is should I still do that? Should I even wish her a happy birthday, I just don't want to hurt her even though she has made my life into a living hell of emotions.
