I'm just curious have you ever met someone through a friend or even been set up for a date with someone through a friend, and it being successful? Or friends helping you in the dating arena in some other way?

I've heard of this happening, but I just wanted to know how common is it, and how successful, and also any personal stories?

Now personally I don't have anything to really add to this topic as I haven't experienced this, this is probably more of a girl thing to do, but I could be wrong. Though one time I did have a friend try to introduce me to some girls he knew but they were far more into him than me.

*Also why is the word help omitted in creating titles for threads?*

Asking for help in a dating advice forum is redundant.

Oh I'm not asking for help, I just had a random question come to my mind.

But most threads which put help in the title would be asking.

people tried, those attempts ended up becoming some of the most awkward moments in our lives so they all eventually gave up and accepted that I was a lost cause.

my sister even paid some expensive dating instructor. what a waste of money that was...

Of course it was. You can't be a professional in something that isn't a profession. It was an obvious scam.

A scam that generates more money than you would believe. I got the contact of someone who charges 3000 euros per day. obviously my family couldn't afford that (and I wouldn't let them), but I am sure some desperate people who with a bit of money in the bank would.

It's been done for me in the past. Wasn't really a fan. They would either match me with my physical type but personality wise we were way too different, or they'd be my personality type but not my physical type. Seems to be the case with the bulk of my dating woes in general.

I think the first thing you have to do is the fine what you mean by successful. Peoples definition of success veries greatly, especially here on LS .

Two different friends have set me up on 3 meet and greets in the last year, and another currently has 2 friends that she thinks I'd be interested in. By me and greet, I mean I meet friends at a bar knowing a woman that was curious and potentially interested was going to be there.

my male friends usually just point out women who are potentially checking me out when I'm out at the bar, or act as a good wing man.

Which reminds me back in highschool my dad tried to help me out so I won't be dateless for the dance so he told me he could have a model show up and be my "date" for the dance (he's really good friends with her father). I was kind of shocked and while grateful for the offer I turned it down saying I'll find my own date for the dance, unfortunately I never did, but I do feel kind of stupid missing a once in a lifetime opportunity like that.

Happens to me a lot!!

Not necessarily "set up" but most girls I end up dating are friends of friends, or "ex-colleagues" - girl I took out the other night works with a mate - he told me shes got the hots for me, so I got her number and took her out.

Easiest way to set one up because you have a "connection" no matter how far removed;)
