peytondoll Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 Our society enforces the idea that men are biologically wired to cheat and want to have sex with many different women. However, alot of these same men who use this justification also think its wrong for a woman to expect a man to take care of her financially or to never pay for dates. These men who say "its in my nature to cheat" also bash women they see as golddiggers. Double standards much? Im glad I live in a world where women are expected to evolve past their evolutionary desires, yet men are encouraged not to. More and more women are placing less focus on income, some still exist that highly focus on it, but with more women working and making more money income is not seen as important. But its curious that the beauty standards in the past 50 years have risen and more average looking men are holding out and passing on girls in their league lookswise to attain a "hotter girl". I hope I never have a daughter
Realist3 Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 It is called instinct. Society has placed an idea that men should only be with one woman. Society has also placed this idea on women, and it worked for a long time because women were considered chattel. But yes, men want to mate with as many women as they possibly can. Some are just better at controlling that instinct than others.
BetrayedH Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 Any excuse will do. My ex-wife had plenty. 7
Furious Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 I think it's even steven, men and women are wired to mate with more than one person. As soon as man discovered that mating and the paternity of the child were correlated, marriage was introduced. Marriage was instituted by men, and they are the loudest complainers of it. 4
Woggle Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 Evolution has nothing whatsoever to do with cheating. It is simply about selfishness and entitlement. I think cheaters of both genders have their share of excuses though. 11

And yes, woman, because they procreate, seek a man who can provide for her offspring and protect them. As women have gained financial equality, they have less need for a provider for life, hence the increase in female infidelity. But despite our evolutionary traits, it is always a matter of choice whether one chooses to cheat or not, since we are no longer dwelling in caves having to beat off rival tribes for resources. 2

And that's why if you ever meet a man that says "it's in my nature to cheat", you turn 180 degrees and walk away. If he is going to use that excuse to cheat, he'll make up another to lie about other things. 3
threebyfate Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 If a man's using the evolutionary excuse, ask him why men aren't evolving as quickly as women? 3
crude Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 If women are making their own money and aren't necessarily monogamous, maybe they shouldn't be so desperate to have boyfriends and husbands. Women evolving would mean not evaluating their success in life by whether they have some guy or not. Relax, enjoy a FWB, a new man every few years, and the company of your female friends and family. 1
EasyHeart Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 Because women let them. If women refused to date/bang these guys, then they wouldn't be making excuses, they'd be on their knees begging for a date. 5
carhill Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 why do men use evolution as an excuse to cheat? Because men are pragmatists and it works. If it didn't work, they'd find another method to get what they want, and then do that, and often do. Human nature. It's more obvious because they are the traditional pursuers and penetrators. 2
somedude81 Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 Another thread that assumes that women never cheat.
carhill Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 I'm not assuming that, and know only too well how the world works, but the thread is offering the assertion that men use evolution as an excuse to cheat and is asking why so we're discussing that. Men have gender-specific psychologies and proclivities and, within those, there are differences and exceptions. Have you ever used such an excuse? I haven't. That doesn't mean men don't, and I've heard it plenty from women, mostly wives who've been cheated on, or so they've related. I do what I do; listen. 1

Oh no, I'm talking about the author and how she made the thread that was trying to paint men as demons while women are angels. Thankfully most of the other posters realized the BS.
Author peytondoll Posted November 15, 2012 Author Posted November 15, 2012 (edited) If a man's using the evolutionary excuse, ask him why men aren't evolving as quickly as women? Haha I will! Sorry if I offended anybody. This wasnt posted to paint men as demon but just an exploration of society. I have never been cheated on (that I know of) but know several men and women who have been. Stats show men and women cheat the same amount so no women arent any better. My point is, why do men use this as a argument when they wont apply both sides of the equation? I know about 4 men off the top of my head that use this justification for their behavior (and freak out when I mention "oh ok...well then women will do this too") and there has been a crapload of it in the media (after Tiger Woods) and on the internet... yet I have not heard about the woman's side of this. If a man really is stupid enough to give the old, "Evolution made me do it" line then give him something back that's just as corny like, "I want an alpha male's baby."
Mme. Chaucer Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 If a man really is stupid enough to give the old, "Evolution made me do it" line then give him something back that's just as corny like, "I want an alpha male's baby." It's a sad fact, though, that there are many, many threads here that claim both of those fallacies (which go hand in hand, as far as I can tell) as fact. I don't think I've ever seen one that was posted by a woman. The bottom line, OP, is that many people will use whatever excuses are handy for their behavior. This "evo psyche" stuff is all over the Internet, including here, so it's very useful for excuse seekers. Really, it's not that difficult to override many of our instinctive urges. We all do it everyday. Thank God, or our world would be apocalyptic. 1

There have been a couple of "I love tall men because" threads and in the first post they sometimes mention wanting to have tall kids. As for cheating, both genders claim stupid excuses. 1
veggirl Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 I have never in my life heard a guy use that as an excuse in real life. Just on here. Do they really say that in real life? I would laugh and laugh and laugh I think. How ridiculous. Generally what I've heard is stuff like "my girlfriend is a bitch" or "I was drunk" or "my girlfriend doesn't fk me". Nothing about biology. 3
Got it Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 I am sorry, I got lost on the line of logic that women, evolution, and not paying for dates are interconnected. I am really lost on that one and not sure how survival of the fittest wrapped up paying the tab as well.

I am really lost on that one and not sure how survival of the fittest wrapped up paying the tab as well. Maybe women using the excuse that they marry for $$ and refuse to pay for dates because they're genetically built to seek powerful, wealthy providers for themselves. They can't help being cheap, full of themselves, cowardly, lazy, gold-diggers, and overall mooches.
Dagorath Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 To be fair, women are often the same way. Especially when they are younger and beautiful. They are attention seekers, and men are attention givers. Alpha Males are always looking for the next Alpha Female, and women are always looking for the next Alpha Male. I see it all the time when I am out. A girl with her guy, and she's eye-****ing me to get some attention. If I were to play my cards right, I could probably steal her from her man. It's all a game, and it's perpetuated by both sides. Sadly our perceptions of what is "Alpha" are often flawed, and so we find ourselves down a bad road more often than not.
Author peytondoll Posted November 16, 2012 Author Posted November 16, 2012 I am sorry, I got lost on the line of logic that women, evolution, and not paying for dates are interconnected. I am really lost on that one and not sure how survival of the fittest wrapped up paying the tab as well. It is connected Women are biologically wired to prefer men who have resources (money has only existed for a short period of time. so resources in preindustrial/civilization times meant a man who had food, status, shelter and other things...nowadays money can buy all of those things, and with status comes resources) It is a fact. I took evolutionary classes out the wazoo in college so men that try to say this isnt true are the ones who want to act like a ****head and get away with it. Throughout human existence, women who stuck by men who didnt have resources were more likely to die and their children were more likely to die Men are biologically wired to spread their seed, ensuring more of their offspring survive. This results in men wanting to **** every attractive woman they see and men in general crave more sexual variety than women. Nobody disputes this My point is- men say their evolution is the reason why they cheat and us women should accept it and put up with it. Well....evolution is the reason why women want to be with a guy who has money/resources. Yet I RARELY meet men who endorse this behavior and are like "ok well Ill accept it" Nope...they degrade women that have this attitude. Selfishness...you can act on your evolutionary urges....yet I cant act on mine? Bull****. Its a double standard Humans are wired for other things too...like racism or really not trusting anyone like yourself. But thats a whole other can of worms. This evolution stuff is a cop out
