I got dumped by a girl who i thought was the love of my life. this was my first love/crush and relationship. First couple of weeks were very very hard but i have still not found my composure and i am still in a dark zone. my bp has shot up, i feel heaviness in chest, dont feel like doing anything (cant even watch tv)...My parents think i need psychiatrist help.

I know i will move on and start living a normal life in a couple of months but my problem is that i have an exam in 30 days which decides my future. I dont want to screw up in this exam-its very important to me. but i cant study even for 15 minutes at the moment. Kindly help me to come out of my depression and start studying as soon as possible.

30 days? Thats quite a good amount of time. I was dumped 2 weeks before my exams. Take a few days out to just relax and let everything sink in. Dont try to study for a few days..just grieve. Goodluck for your exams!

You're emotions and physically feelings are very normal for what you're going through.

In fact, what you're going through -- the loss of love, the abandonment -- is just about the most painful thing a person can go through in life.

I wouldn't put a time frame on when you think you'll be over this -- it takes many, many people years to fully recover from abandonment of this sort and some never really do.

Is there any way to postpone this test or take it another time down the road? If so, I would seriously consider doing that.

I'd also think about getting involved with a therapist/counselor (NOT a medical doctor). Someone who has some experience with abandonment.

You have been presented with a unique gift to grow as a person and to learn about yourself and others. Don't let it slip through your fingers, and don't run away from it.

Good luck.
