Babazed Posted November 3, 2012 Posted November 3, 2012 I have nowhere else to ask about my legal rights concerning this serious issue..... please advise. Below is the first email i sent to pof. ------------------------------------------------------ Hi there, I have proof of a a false profile on here, that has been used by my ex to stalk me, i exchanged private telephone numbers with her and found out by text who she really was, it's my ex A***e C******l (a*********e@h*****l.com), a dangerous sociopath i met on here a couple of years ago, i have now received threats via SMS and she nearly found out where i was living. Last year I was involved with ARCH, a domestic violence support team based in ******* and was assigned a worker who helped me leave her and get set up else where, she broke my nose scarred my face and threatened my life on numerous occasions, however this is all heresay on this form so i won't go into detail until/ if it goes to court. The profile in question is J*****0, if you check the server logs you will find it's coming from the same IP address as her other profile, which she has renamed and now maybe hidden. Please could you delete this profile and keep an eye open for duplicate accounts from the same IP or email address. I will hide mine for now, cos this has really set me back and i'm very worried to use your service. Thanks for your understanding, and i apologise for not being more cautious, lesson learned! Kind Regards, M*** ------------------------------------------------------ I met who i thought was the love of my life off there 3 years ago, i split up with her a year ago, absolute nutter, broke my nose, scarred my face and threatened to have me killed on numerous occasions....... i had a domestic violence worker help me leave her and get setup in my own place away from her. since then she's plagued me with phone calls, and found where i live, waited outside in her car for hours watching me. So i moved, changed my number, i went back on plenty of fish and started talking to someone whose responses aroused my suspiscion, so i explained i was worried it was my ex and left my number for her to call me so i know she's genuine, she didn't call instead we started texting, she said she was too shy to speak yet, and she damn nearly got my address when it all backfired on her and i caught her out. I then went onto PLENTYOFFISH to contact them to report the profile, i explained why, and how i could prove it, they didnt even bother to reply and deleted my account??? WTF? I checked and sure enough the account i reported is still up, but i am now banned......errr what did i do to deserve that? other than be male? Plenty of fish protects violent domestic abuse criminals! I'm sickened
xdahliax Posted November 3, 2012 Posted November 3, 2012 I don't understand that at all. Why would they ban you? Is there any way she could have figured out your password and logged onto your account? I'd send them another letter requesting clarification.
dasein Posted November 3, 2012 Posted November 3, 2012 If you read the terms of use, terms of service or license agreement you agreed to, you will likely find that the site has absolute control over terminating your account for good, bad or no reason at all. In addition, you have no damages unless your ex used the site to slander you publicly and by real name to other members or something similar. Would just move on to another dating site anyway. Why would you want to remain on that site with a stalker ex? Use a paysite for OLD. Your results will be better, and your ex will not likely pay money to harrass you. If she does, you may find you have more legal rights as a paying subscriber... or not, again depends on what you agree to when you join the site. Good luck.
CC12 Posted November 3, 2012 Posted November 3, 2012 Plenty of fish protects violent domestic abuse criminals! That's a pretty harsh accusation. Maybe you should wait until you have more info before defaming POF. It sucks that happened to you, and I don't know why they would have banned you, but you told them, "I'm very worried to use your service." And their response may have meant, "Then out of concern for your safety, please don't use our service." It's just a guess. You could try emailing and politely asking why you were banned, but I doubt you'll get an answer. And I'm pretty sure you have no legal rights as far as POF goes. Why don't you have a restraining order against her? Find out what you need to get one. The domestic violence organization that helped you before should be able to help you get one.
River Rain Posted November 3, 2012 Posted November 3, 2012 I'm sure it has nothing to do with your gender. You did mention legal action, so maybe they took that as some kind of threat against them and thought you were a nutcase. I'm not saying you are, but just trying to offer an opinion. Still though, if she's that obsessed, then I would seek legal counsel and find out what you can do about a restraining order or something to that effect. And I would stay away from dating sites unless you can be completely anonymous...which kind of defeats the purpose when you're trying to meet someone new.
phineas Posted November 3, 2012 Posted November 3, 2012 Banned from POF? I've voluntarily been on that site for months. I think they did you a favor. I might just ban myself. LOL! 1

I'm sure it does have everything to do with my gender, but you have to be on the receiving end of the stick to know the stick exists at all. Why the hell would you assume they think me 'a nutter'?? because i'm male? nothing in that message gives the impression i'm a nutter, only the fact i'm male and it doesnt often happen to males?? I'm a victim, however since posting this, i mailed them again and told them i'd see them in court, they have now reinstated my account. Also explain this, about 6 years ago i wasn;t interested in a full on relationship, so i checked the box for 'intimate encounter', 10 mins later my account got deleted, i tried 3 more times with other email addresses, same, deleted in 10 mins. ~So i created a female account and checked the intimate encounter box, and was openly frank in the description, saying i was loooking for two brothers or twins or father and son to do me, as it was a long held fantasy (i took inspiration from a disgusting female profile i'd viewed on there, and basically reiterated it) The account wasn't banned!!??? so go figure, the site seems to be run by women for women, it is misandry gone insane.....double standards a plenty. It seems to be a form of epimping, the site gets more money the visitors it has, those visitor numbers go up in accordance with the amount of sexy females on there, so they turn a blind eye to womens motivations. I can draw no other conclusions, thats been my experience, as well as many hundreds of other men, the blog i usually go to about this has now been closed due to the sheer number of men complaining.....granted about 40% of these men are jilted idiots, evident by their post content, but the majority have valid points not too dis similar to mine.

carhill Posted November 5, 2012 Posted November 5, 2012 I don't doubt LS gets similar threats, considering the subject matter here, but dasein covered the relevant part. POF is a free site, like LS, and makes money from ad views and clicks. LS makes a few extra bucks from subscriptions. Users agree to certain terms in exchange for free use of the site. Establishing material damages would be the challenge and, criminally, law enforcement would be the first point of contact, not a forum full of anonymous strangers, most of whom have no legal background whatsoever. I'd have to do some background checking, but it's overwhelmingly likely that POF was founded by young males. Oh, that was easy. Markus Hind started the parent company in 1999. No surprise. There are millions, if not billions, of people who use the internet daily. Most are 'regular folks'. Some are nuts. Some are criminals. Life goes on. Plenty of Fish knows this. Good luck.
Ross MwcFan Posted November 5, 2012 Posted November 5, 2012 The site is way too overly strict, especially the forums, I'm surprised the forums are so busy and haven't died.
TigerCub Posted November 5, 2012 Posted November 5, 2012 Oh, brother. Oh Brother???? Really MC? Is that some kinda dig at him cuz he's a guy?!!!
