GirlontheLam Posted November 3, 2012 Posted November 3, 2012 There are definitely class differences in the appreciation of certain types of styles. If you go by income/upbringing you won't find many differences along racial lines. For example, I am a "middle class" black woman. And very preppy. My friends with similar upbringings across all ethnic groups have similar preferences (unless you know they are into hipsters, skaters or outdoorsy people.) But if your main fashion influence is "hip hop style" then you don't necessarily like the preppy look. Whether you are black asian or whatever. I live in california, so we have whites, asians, latinos, and blacks who are all about sagging pants/hp hop style. And people in the same groups all about preppy looks too. But in many places in the US, class and race lines are 100% equivalent and there isn't much class diversity in the ethnic groups. One more comment: When I lived in SC, I was officially a weirdo in clothing choices and many other ways.
GirlontheLam Posted November 3, 2012 Posted November 3, 2012 That orange pants look good on a runway but I don't think most guys can wear that. I am thinking about buying a red slim jeans though which is trend right now (along with other bold color jeans) The thing is I will get eyed by pick up truck driver looking guys. Plus I don't like getting attentions from gays (when I wear something stylish or bright color, I notice more attention from those creatures) I felt very comfortable when I visited L.A since I felt like I was one of them. It would be hard to rock those casual business clothes if you live in a small city. Try rust or burnt orange. It totally works for most men in real life.
tigressA Posted November 3, 2012 Posted November 3, 2012 That's a bit boring. I am totally into: http://media-cache-ec6.pinterest.com/upload/45317539969981848_wIk9zGf2_c.jpg http://www.trashness.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/preppy-classy-dressed-black-men-fashion-650x431.jpg http://303magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/preppy-goldyn-shipleystripedls_1-203x300.jpg Ooooh, I love this. I have a coworker who dresses like this all the time and he's totally adorable. Too bad he's gay.
GirlontheLam Posted November 3, 2012 Posted November 3, 2012 Ok, seriously? orange pants? oh and i'm white. I cannot pull off Dion Sander's colors either. As for the last pic, I can't tell if that's a full grown man or a 10yr old girl. Although I have similar short sleeve v-necks I wear in the summer. Is that you in the pic? For all men "afraid" of colored pants, I recommend a nice royal blue pair. A little edgier than the jeans. But just as versatile. For conservative peeps, pair it with something in the green family. You could totally do royal blue pants, medium grey v-neck and a green button down underneath. Are you more bold? Try gold or orange or rust under the v-neck. Or make that bright your sweater color. I also love the whole blazer, fitted t-shirt, jeans, "street shoes" look. That is pretty great as well. Keep everything well fitted and you are golden. Driving loafers or Sperry's are good for this look too. All the women will swoon! (I am on the colorful side. I am basically modern preppy. Today I'm wearing turquoise jeggings, red peep toe flats, a brown/beige/cream snake skin print tunic.) 1
yongyong Posted November 3, 2012 Posted November 3, 2012 White tuxedo shirt by Catherine :: fashion looks like this? I am wearing it right now. little darker though For some reason, most black girls are fashion oriented Try rust or burnt orange. It totally works for most men in real life. 2
xdahliax Posted November 3, 2012 Posted November 3, 2012 Fashion sense is really important to me, but I understand that it isn't to everyone. I wouldn't rule out someone with a bad or nonexistent fashion sense. It does, however, have a really big effect on me. I saw this guy in the metro yesterday that was dressed like Chalky White from Boardwalk Empire: http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lvfib5orIz1qkiwxpo1_500.jpg I wanted to rip his crisp clothes right off. I don't really have a preference for dress style, but I don't do understated very well.

Unless you own a yacht, who are we kidding here? BTW I have the girl version of those pants in fuchsia and cobalt.
yongyong Posted November 3, 2012 Posted November 3, 2012 This girl knows what's up. I recommend this Wanted: Dockers Alpha Khaki in Copen Blue Buy something shorter than your regular pants or fold it up. the key is wearing it like 'italian guys' by showing ankles Driving shoes or loafer will go well with those pants. yongyong Posted November 3, 2012 Posted November 3, 2012 Is this a joke? so people with north face jacket should climb Himalayas? you see them walking around downtown in those thick jackets? I agree with all of this except Sperry's. Unless you own a yacht, who are we kidding here? BTW I have the girl version of those pants in fuchsia and cobalt.
xdahliax Posted November 3, 2012 Posted November 3, 2012 Is this a joke? so people with north face jacket should climb Himalayas? you see them walking around downtown in those thick jackets? I don't know. I live in Canada. It's bloody effing cold here, so people wear those jackets for a reason. I'm not wearing a cheap jacket if I'm waiting for the bus at -40.

BTW I have the girl version of those pants in fuchsia and cobalt. LOL! I think they are fun. Oh and I live in the Bay. Winter = rain so they are pseudo practical. But you absolutely cannot wear them with khakis or shorts or whatever. Then it is way too New England. Good colors, I think fuchsia is next on my list for pants. 1
xdahliax Posted November 3, 2012 Posted November 3, 2012 Honestly.. that's a bit ridiculous. Looks like someone trying to be impressive, especially on a subway, are you serious?! Now stepping out a 200k car, sure, but other that, I've seen better dressed pimps at a BustaRhymes concert. You should see the things I wear on the metro (because I take the metro to work). I actually do dress to impress, though.

This was me the other day: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/94502876/shirt2.JPG With some reddish brown Bostonian's. The day before was black checkered pants, LT red shirt with charcoal undershirt & some square tipped shoes. Yeah, their ugly as sin but, that's why I like them.

Depending on your city, that might be the way everyone goes everywhere. I wouldn't be shocked to see a dress to the nines person on the subway. In the Bay, you are lucky to see a man in a nice coat. People are all about hoodies and north face. 1

This is pretty much the norm for where I am when the snow flies.

SmileFace Posted November 3, 2012 Posted November 3, 2012 I don't doubt you one iota. Edit: might... be hating a little bit too, just think it's over the top. In NYC most people don't have much choice when trains/buses are our main form of transportation. 1

sweetkiwi Posted November 3, 2012 Posted November 3, 2012 uh i live in italy. And when i see the guys with their pants rolled up i think, what a dweeb. Granted the men here are very very yummy, they mostly look exactly the same. Its boring. And it just shows how they prefer to go with the crowd. Its kinda a plague here. Fitting in. Its gross.

yongyong Posted November 3, 2012 Posted November 3, 2012 Maybe you see them all the time and that's why you are sick of those guys? Bring a group of those guys to any average cities in U.S. They will tear up the street. The reason I like their style is they make it look so natural. I am sure any guys can dress up like that on weekends. But you know when you dress up, you tend to act little differently? Dressing up very nice is one thing. Acting natural in those clothes are another thing. I think these guys are good at making their clothes and their body work together smoothly. I believe it's because wearing a blazer and khakis are a lot more common? I believe they dress well for even going to the local coffee shop? Is wearing a loafer is like wearing tennis shoes for Americans? Is wearing khakis is like wearing a sweat pants for Americans? How do they dress in real life? I guess I can't make any assumptions by looking at magazine photos since I've never been there. uh i live in italy. And when i see the guys with their pants rolled up i think, what a dweeb. However, I catch the women at stopping for a second to look me up & down. Either because I look good or their used to me being in cheap Polo's. 1
