AustenLover Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 So I've managed 6 weeks of NC except for the occasional run-in, but the problem is, my ex's family lives in Manhattan. We dated for a year and I am genuinely worried about them. However, I did see him at school the next day (grad school) and he seemed happy, so I'm not sure if I should email and check on them. What do you think?

What do you think? If you saw him at school I'm sure he's fine. If there was a huge family emergency he wouldn't be acting happy in school, he'd be with them. Lower Manhattan was absolutely flooded, but the severe damage and deaths came from NJ, Long Island and an area in Queens. Don't use it as an excuse to contact.
geegirl Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 However, I did see him at school the next day (grad school) and he seemed happy, so I'm not sure if I should email and check on them. What do you think? No need. If he's in school, looking happy then everything is fine. As Kat mentioned, my boss and my girlfriend live in Manhattan and it didn't hit as hard.
Feelin Frisky Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 I started my own thread on this. There is reason for concern for people who live in the NY Bight--that's the angle formed by New Jersey and Long Island with the mouth of the Husdon at the middle of the angle. My brother lost his house and his job and we only found out last night because everything was sunk and there was no power. I don't know what he's going to so--he's single and on his own and we all moved away in recent years. I'm very worried. My aunt in Staten Island lost her house too. If in doubt, check it out if you have loved ones in that area--water and waves were funneled right through and people near inlets and bays may be facing something they hadn't imagined.
veggirl Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 No you don't need to check on them. He wouldn't be in school looking happy if his family was newly homeless or he was concerned about not having heard from them in days.
