irc333 Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 I got talking to this local woman I met online (OK Cupid). We get to a point about exchanging phone #'s, and she said, "Do you want to text? I'm a multi tasker. So I can text better than talk." The sad thing is, she's from MY generation, and I thought that would only apply to college students, lol. But that doesn't make much sense. I said, "No, sorry, I'm more of a talker than a texter, that I find it a bit impersonal to carry on conversations via text." Never heard back from her after that.
sweetkiwi Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 you'll ruin your chances with a lot of women that way. Not because of texting but because of not even being open to trying.
carhill Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 I'm a multi tasker. So I can text better than talk." Interesting comment. Enlightening, actually. Yeah, incompatible. Billions more to be served.
Under The Radar Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 (edited) you'll ruin your chances with a lot of women that way. Not because of texting but because of not even being open to trying. Could you elaborate on this. I, too, prefer speaking on the phone to texting. I'm not anti-texting, but don't really want to have conversations through text. Isn't texting rather impersonal; especially when trying to get to know someone new? What about all the posts that state, "Be a man and call the woman if you are interested in seeing her. I'm confused Edited October 30, 2012 by Training Revelations
jcrew11 Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 It could be a scammer who just wants to disguise his voice and just use text. Texting is free with unlimited texting plans; but phone calls use up expensive minutes.
MrCastle Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Talking is invasive and takes up your time. You can't talk to anyone else while you do it whereas when you text, the amount of people you can talk to at one time is limitless. I'm in favor of texting so long as the girl is a good texter.

Dude, this make you sound very old, "she's from MY generation?" Like the other poster said, you have to adapt! Its a dog eat dog world out there in dating land!

On the flip side, talking forces each person to focus more attention on the conversation, arguably improving the quality of the interaction. I've adapted to text, and prefer it for some communication. But talking has an important place in getting to know someone. Face-to-face conversation works best for that. 2
FitChick Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 She probably can't walk and chew gum at the same time. 2
pteromom Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 She may be like me and have a phone-phobia. I am fine with texting, email, and in person, but I HATE talking on the phone to the point where I actively avoid it.
