paperboy48 Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 Alright, going on my first date in over 17 years, tonight. I'm getting a little nervous.. but it will be okay! We have exchanged some emails and spoke on the phone. We are meeting for drinks tonight. Assuming I'll get there first, do I wait at the bar (which is right where you walk in to the restaraunt) and then get a table once she is there? Do I extend my hand for a handshake? Do I hug her? What do you think? 1
mammasita Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 I would wait at the bar and throw a couple drinks back to calm my nerves, thats just me though.
Leegh Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 I would wait at the bar and then once she arrives, arrange for a table. A handshake, in my opinion, seems too business-like, and a hug seems like too much, too soon. Just a compliment about her hair or something will suffice early on. After dinner, whether you are interested in her or not, please walk her to her car. Women can tell a lot about a man who does not walk her to her car, as it says a lot about a man's character.

I like the walk her to her car, had not thought of that. thanks! I have been thinking of ways to compliment her...her though What do I nice..your hair looks nice?
mammasita Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 No, dont do the hair comment, it sounds like you're trying too hard and I would think it was insincere. How about, "you look great, thanks for coming out tonight", then lead her to the table 1

Drseussgrrl Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 The same thing it says when a man opens the door for you, lets you order first, etc. GENTLEMAN.
Enema Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 I've always done the hug. Never had any problems with it.
SmileFace Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 Like? >10 LS members< That you didn"t walk her to her car.
rhymes Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 Definitely got to go for the hug. Go for the hug and the you look great tonight, thanks for coming out. Always walk to the car, pay for dinner, etc... I usually don't go for the kiss on the first date, unless I'm getting really strong signals. Usually go for the hug, cheek kiss. All dependent on the girl, but I've been meeting more for coffee/dinner dates, so the kiss is harder to seal than when alcohol is involved. Good luck and go get 'em.

What do you think? no handshake......if you don't feel comfortable hugging an arm rub quick and light but not a handshake that's reserved for buddies........not really a first date thing.....to handshake a female...well it isnt for me...lol...what would i know do what feels right for you..im not akin to dating in 2012...i hug guys on first dates quick ones..well i used too when i actually dated ..smilin....good luck with your date.deb
rocketman122 Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 on the tons of dates ive been on, I usually give them a leaning forward kinda hug and a kiss on the cheek and It winds up being that I have one arm on her back and one hand holding hers. then I give the "you look great" compliment. and since I date hotties, its always true anyways haha..
january2011 Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 I vote bar + hug, even though I'm not a person who hugs. A handshake is too formal for a date situation, as previously mentioned.
SmileFace Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 I want to answer from experiance but I can not for the life of me can not remember a first OLD I had. I would say a small hug... or no greeting but never a hand shake.
xdahliax Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 Like? >10 LS members< Clearly, that you want her to get raped on the way to her car. Or maybe even kidnapped and then mutilated in a basement for years on end. 2

This is OLD after all. LOL! Oh, i'm sorry OP, am I making you nervous?
Silly_Girl Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 Quick kiss on the cheek and 'its really great to see you!'
