lexnmike4enomore Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 Recently.....I've noticed that i get B.O. quicker. If i take a shower Monday night...By Wednesday noonish...i get B.O. That never used to happen before. I usually take a shower every other day. I use Secret skin renewal deodorant. I don't know why all of a sudden i get this funky ass odor coming from me.
moimeme Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 If you use deodorant every day, try switching to another one. Every now and then I find that it's as though I've become too used to mine and it quits working. I use a different one for a while and that seems to do the job.
Wellnowuknow Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 You take a shower every other day? Hello thats your problem. Does anyone else not see something wrong with that?
moimeme Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 As a matter of fact, if you talk to your physician, he'll likely tell you that showering every day is bad for you. It wrecks your skin, removes essential oils, and isn't good for your immunity. My physician and dermatologist ordered me to NOT shower every day. I wash several bits every day, and, of course, if I get hot or dirty, then I will shower - even more than once. But if it's a cool day and I don't perspire at all (and usually I don't) then I follow doctor's orders. If I don't, my skin gets extremly dry and terribly itchy - to the point that the itch wakes me up at night and I get bruises from scratching.

I used to get dry skin from showering everyday. I never got immune to my deodorant before. But this is a new Secret i never tried before. Any suggestions on a different deodorant?
Mr Spock Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 Try an anti-persperant. If you stink, wash your pits.
Mr Spock Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 PS-Different doctors will tell you different things. Have you spoken to a doctor that reccomends showering more often? Or at least bathing more often?
moimeme Posted July 31, 2004 Posted July 31, 2004 You don't need another doctor. That you don't shower doesn't mean you don't wash bits that are likely to offend. It's not as though she's going a week between showers. As for deodorant, you'll have to try some out. I've used Secret for a long time, with breaks. I don't like scented ones so that cuts down some of the choices. One of the ones I uses when I'm switching off is Degree and the other is Lady Speed Stick but everybody's chemistry is different.
supermom Posted July 31, 2004 Posted July 31, 2004 I really like the deoderant I use.....Dove Deoderant...fresh sent. It helps too when I shave, keeps my pits dry but not too dry (does that make sence, the too dry part is not from sweat, but dry skin and razor burn) Try it. My sister had the same prob and tried my brand, and loves it too.
Mr Spock Posted July 31, 2004 Posted July 31, 2004 You might want to consider somthing like Drysol, or certain dry(?) to cut down on the amount of sweat you produce. It helps keep the stink under control.
honey2005 Posted July 31, 2004 Posted July 31, 2004 I've used the Dove (original or fresh scent) deodorant for a long time and I still love it. I think the origninal scent smells best, though. I usually shower everyday, but sometimes if I haven't sweated and I'm not planning on going anywhere, I'll do it every other day.
Mr Spock Posted July 31, 2004 Posted July 31, 2004 Ok, are we talking about deoderant, which contains no aluminum zirconium tetrachlorohydrex, or anti persperant, which does? As far as I know, Dove is an anti persperant. If your DEODERANT isn't working, try a better anti persperant. As far as I know, and I do, because I read the labels, dove, mitchum, and secret all have high percentages of the stuff I mentioned above, with dove being higher than secret and I can't remember what mitchum is.
brashgal Posted July 31, 2004 Posted July 31, 2004 Odor could be caused by other things besides poor hygiene or ineffective deodorant. Are you drinking enough water? Eating a lot of fried food? Spicy foods? Some vegetables like asparagus, onions, garlic can alter your chemistry and make your urine or sweat smell strongly.
shamen Posted July 31, 2004 Posted July 31, 2004 There is a difference between deoderants and anti-perspirants. Most sold at regular stores in the States are both. You should not always use anti-perspirants, IMO. For example, for working out or many other physical activities, it's good to perspire. You're supposed to, right? If you're looking for just deoderants, you may need to go to a health food store and get one. Liquid Rock is awesome!
Mr Spock Posted July 31, 2004 Posted July 31, 2004 Except anti persperants don't completely stop sweating. Show me the link where the FDA states it's unhealthy to wear it all the time. If you showered every day, and still had B.O. you might want to consult your doctor as B.O. can also be a medical sign of something else. But since you don't, I reccomend either showering more often, using a stronger anti persperant, and spot cleaning your underarms after physical exertion.
shamen Posted August 1, 2004 Posted August 1, 2004 Not interested in showing links. It's a belief. Sorry Spock. It's still scary... why should we not perspire when we are supposed to? Hiking, working out, etc. That's just weird. I don't wear anti-perspirants. Who cares what the FDA has to say? I thought that you didn't live in the STATES. The obsessiveness that people have in the States of showering every day is also bizarre, IMHO.
moimeme Posted August 1, 2004 Posted August 1, 2004 Well, it's not as though you cover your entire body in antiperspirant!!!! It's just the pits - and I don't know the percent of the body they constitute, but I know for sure that they're probably the least useful spot to perspire anyway since you would have to have your arms out at at least shoulder height for air to reach them to evaporate the moisture and cool you. And not a whole lot of people assume that position when they're exercising.
joseph Posted August 1, 2004 Posted August 1, 2004 #1- Antiperspirants don't completely dry out your pits, so relax. #2-If you cant get your BO under control, use a good antiperspirant, while showering everyday..and for the dry skin, use some cream. Problem solved. Have a nice day
Love2BLoved Posted August 1, 2004 Posted August 1, 2004 Originally posted by shamen The obsessiveness that people have in the States of showering every day is also bizarre, IMHO. If that's really what you think then that's good for you. I shower EVERY day, I do not know if that's bad; however, it makes me feel GREAT. Everyone is different, if you don't like to shower everyday or you just can't, that's fine as well it's your body, right? I don't think it's "bizarre" to shower every day. IMHO I find it normal and hygienic. I also do not find not showering everyday bizarre, everyone is different. There are some people that don't wear any deodorant and it's really repelling to my scent, but that's their lifestyle.

If you're not interested in showing links, then don't state something as if it's a fact, state it like it's your opinion. And what does it matter where I live? I chose to use the FDA because it's easiest regulating agency for you to understand. FYI, when you use anti persperant to decrease sweating in your underarms, the skin makes up for it by increasing the amount you sweat in other places. If you're curious, google Drysol to find out. Showering is a personal habit. Personally, I can understand not shampooing your hair every day but I can't understand not at least getting it WET. I shower every day (more if I'm doing heavy excercise or work) because it makes me feel clean. Each to his own. If you stink, wash. Simple as that. Listen to Joseph.
shamen Posted August 2, 2004 Posted August 2, 2004 Spock, in my original post, I said, "You should not always wear anti-perspirants, IMO." IMO means In My Opinion. It was never stated as a fact. I stick by my belief that they're weird. Again, my opinion. This thread is not about me, it's about lexnmike4e. I don't have any problems with B.O., except of course when I'm camping.
