befreckled Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 Anyone who has had experience taking appetite suppressants? I took Duromine/Panbesy which is essentially phentermine for the 1st time over a decade ago and I lost a bunch of weight but also went overboard - became borderline anorexic and bulimic. I never went below a healthy BMI and hovered in the middle of an acceptable weight range (averaged 120lbs for someone who is only 5'2") I tried interval running the other day and my knees hurt after gaining about 20lbs in the last year so I entertained the idea of taking some appetite suppressants to drop some weight to make exercise easier. I forgot how "low" one feels when you are on it. I have a month's subscription so I'll continue with it but I'd love to hear other experiences - be it positive or negative.
pink_sugar Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 I'm 126lbs and 5'3" and I have people telling me not to lose any more weight. It really depends on your body type. Not what a chart is telling you that you should be. I've been introduced to them, but no. I think people should try to control their eating habits without medication and eat as healthy as they possibly can. I have a big appetite, but I've made conscious effort to watch what I put in my mouth as much as possible. 1
River Rain Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 I'm dating myself here, but back in the day I took over-the-counter medication that contained FenPhen. An appetite suppressant. I developed high blood pressure from it, which is now, thankfully, under control. I think that any altered way of improving your health is ultimately bad for you. I lost nearly 100 pounds the last few years through diet and exercise. I know lots of folks want quick results, but in my opinion, you just need to do the work. I had to slow down my runs until I lost the weight because my knees and ankles would buckle. Eventually though when you work hard, you'll lose that extra weight so you can run effectively. Plus you have a history of ana? Maybe not such a good idea. 1

You need to learn how to run properly, it's your technique, not your weight. You are not that heavy. Also, you probably didn't warm up properly.
