hey everyone. Long story short, ex gf broke up with me about 1.5 months ago. I didnt want us to end so its been extremely difficult. We are NC but I cant get her out of my head (her and her new bf). I havent literally slept well the entire time! Some nights I get 3 hours, some 2, sometimes none! Ive taken ambien, melatonin, codeine, etc. and nothing works! I always feel tired before bed but when I lay down, NOTHING! It is getting to the point that it is scaring the **** out of me because I am getting roughly 3 hours of broken sleep per night every night and its going on 6 weeks! Every night I pray to get at least 6 but I cant get her out of my head and its killing me. And the recovery is slowed significantly do to the lack of sleep. Any ideas? Its getting to the point where I am scared for my health and somehow I still manage to push through every single day sleep deprived. I also am currently uninsured so I Dr. is temporarily out of the question. Has anyone experienced this for this long? Ideas? Thanks everyone!

I think monicaelise has the right idea. Do something that can take your mind off of things when going to bed. Some things as already stated that can help could be reading or listening to a book, or watching tv.

For me it is melatonin 15mg every night and the TV on. I hate the night time the most coming home to an empty house (the cat doesn''t count) makes what a manageable day worse

Try exercise, try melatonin, if those don't work try Dramamine... Dramamine has a half life between 5-9 hours meaning it will knock you put and be out of your system by the next morning so you can wake up as need be... It's also not as habit forming as other sleep aids because its an antihistamine not a Sedative/hypnotic... Because it has a different mechanism of action it can make you sleepy but not dependent... Use it for a few days and then try to sleep in your own without it... If you can't find Dramamine, look for Tylenol pm or benedryl which both contain the same ingredient (diphenhydramine) that makes you sleepy...

Also limit caffeine to one cup daily, only sleep in your bed if you're not tired leave your room to read and watch tv then come back to your room in an hour to try to sleep, stop drinking alcohol or eating 3hrs before bed, exercise, go to sleep and get up at the same time each day

I find that eating plain yogurt or drinking a warm cup of milk makes me sleepy in no time. That, and reading/doing work in bed.

Definitely agree with increasing physical activity. I go through periods where I work out regularly, and periods where I hardly work out at all. I sleep so much better during those more active periods, it's incredible.
