From a college kid's point of view, and I'm talking about that age range dating scene.

As a guy who keeps to himself more (though when I put myself out there I find myself easily liked) I can't seem to understand how a girl/guy can have a crush/infatuation over one guy/girl they know when they have plenty of other friends who seem to be suitable matches for them (if not better...). Especially when the object of their affection is average in looks at best.

I mean... what sets them apart from the rest?

For me, I like this girl and we're on...a weird set of terms because of a history we have together (and haven't even dated). I've always liked her and never doubted it. In comparison I have a female friend who I love spending time with, I find her very easy to talk to (which is odd to find since I don't talk freely with just anyone), she's attractive enough, but my feelings aren't there. Why? I can't put my finger on it. And if that's the same for everyone else out there, I'm going to worry for the rest of my life that the only thing making me special to my SO is an intangible no one can explain...
