hey everyone. I was wondering if u guys and gals can help me out. I just got out of a very long relationship and moved to a new city and state. I dont know anyone and i am not sure how to get back into the whole dating meeting new people scene. Any and all advice would be great on how to meet new people and start a new life and move on. How do i start meeting new woman so that i may find the special someone.

You know, when I felt strong enough to date again after my break-up, I wondered the same thing. It had been so long since I was active in the dating scene. I guess it all depends on what you are looking for. Long term? Just for fun? Dating around? I guess you never know until you meet someone and see how it goes.

Anyhoo! I finally posted on a well-known Internet dating service. E-mailed and chatted with several guys, talked with some on the phone. I liked it because I was able to kinda get to know people before having to meet them, so it wasn't like a blind date. (** Word of caution** When a woman posts that she is "average build", remember that the average sized woman in this country wears a size 14! )

Most of the people I know who have dated this way have made friends at least. My experience with the whole thing is that it was no more disastrous than any other kind of dating. And to me, it beats the hell out of meeting some guy in a bar!

I ended up marrying someone I met on the Internet. We both felt like we knew each other before we even met. I was comfortable with him from the beginning and I am looking forward to spending my life with him.

It is something to consider.

Actually, it was matchmaker.com. I live in the sticks, and I really never had problems finding anyone within a 25 mile area of where I live. Infact, my future husband was living 10 minutes from me. We joke about how many times we must have passed each other on the freeway or stood in the same grocery store line.

Give it a try. I felt kinda self-conscience about it at first, but then it was kinda fun. I would have never met my husband otherwise. You never know who is out there.

thank u so much for the advice.

That has been my problem i very self-conscience so i have tried to meet people the old fashioned way but the area i live in is a very big retirement community.

You know, I the hardest part of doing the match thing was finding a name to use with my profile! Something not to desperate, sexy or honest, know what I mean? And since I only looked at guys' pic and profiles, I had no idea of what other women called or said about themselves. Posting a pic was hard, too. I didn't want to tell me friends what I was doing, because I usually made fun of people who did internet dating! So when I started going out, everyone wanted to know where I was meeting these guys. Eventually I did tell my friends and family what I was doing and they were all okay with it, even supportive! So you can see that I had some pretty serious reservations about trying it, but I found out that internet dating is pretty common. Just no one talks about it!!!

And when I said "not too honest", I meant just coming out and naming myself "Tiredmom" or "2busy2date"! People did say stuff like, "I don't know what I'm doing here!". But just have fun with it. Have a freind look over your profile, if you feel comfortable, especially if you have just a casual girlfriend or woman you work with, or a sister... Someone to give you a woman's perspective. That's what my husband did.

I really only used the service for about 6 weeks before I met him! Good luck, and I hope you find success.
