I ask because I have had 2 females cancel dates on me in the past month and then we ended up talking on the phone again but didn't quickly reschedule another date. So what ended up happening was we just lost contact because all the anticipation of meeting each other for the first time was gone.

Like the 2 weeks of talking on the phone never happened. I think that's why if someone cancels a date it's important to have another date in mind you will start to focus your attention on the other people you were talking to online.

So has anyone had a cancelled date and remained in contact with the person?

Don't know about a time frame but it's on the one who cancels, regardless of sex, to re-schedule. If they don't they're not interested or just don't have good dating etequette.

Another thing that happens is that someone new becomes more interesting which pushes the person cancelled out of your mind
