I want to get my belly button peirced so badly. I think they are so cute and sexy and I know my boyfriend would love it.

The thing is, I don't handle pain well and my mom is trying to scare me so I won't want to get one.

Can anyone tell me how much they hurt, while it's getting done, and after it's actually peirced? Like does it hurt to clean it? What about when something rubs against it? how long does it take to heal?

I have no idea about the questions you ask. But I am curious about something and since you brought this subject up, perhaps you can enlighten me....

What is up with all this "body art" stuff nowadays? Personally, I find body piercings to be anything but cute and sexy. And tatoos completely disgust me. A piercing at least isn't permenent; if you tire of it, you can let it close. But a tatoo is permenent and can be removed only with surgery or the new (and very expensive) laser proceedure - both of which I'm told are painful.

Why do people find these things sexy? A woman's body is sexy, but not her belly button stud or clit ring. That's just jewelry, not her.

Maybe I'm just an old fart, but I don't understand the attraction of all this stuff. To be honest, it skeeves me.

Expect to experience a little bit of pain. Most of my pain derived from my pants rubbing on it. I ended up removing it several months later, it drove me crazy. I've had four body piercings and this was second worse in regards to pain...but the pain wasn't really that bad.

It took mine no time to heal. There really wasn't even a healing process for me. It just was pierced. Maybe mine never healed and that's why it hurt? Heck, I don't know.

Mine did leave a scar...on both sides. Small, but still there by all means. I scar easily though. All of my body piercings have left scars.

Good luck and enjoy your body art. :)

In the tattoo world you will find two types of people: people who actually want to use tattoos as a way of expression of their individuality, and people who just want tattoos because they think they are cool and "everybody has one"

My boyfriend would be absolutely horrified if he had to get something on his body that someone else could possibley have. Which is the chance if you go pick something off the wall. Which is why, he drew his own and why I would get him to draw mine for me (if I choose to get one, one day)

If someone is getting tattooed for a good reason, which is personal expression and individuality, then I don't see anything wrong with it.

I suppose it's just a preference, just like with peircings. I find peircings, in moderation, sexy. My boyfriend has his nipple and his eyebrow peirced and I think it's so hot.

Oh, I don't think there's anything wrong with it and everyone has a right to do their own thing in regard to self expression. It's just that everyone I know who's ever got a tatoo has come to regret it, which is why plastic surgeons who are now specializing in tatoo removal are getting filthy rich.

I know that if I were interested in someone and learned they had a tatoo and certain types of piercings, I would never get nake with them. It turns me off completely. But that's just me and I probably am an old fart. LOL

I have my belly pierced. It did hurt while it was getting done, but it is over pretty quickly. Afterwards it did get a bit infected and stayed sore for a while, and hurt if clothes rubbed on it. But after a few months it was OK, I took a lot of time cleaning it and trying to get rid of the infection and it healed. I'm so glad I didn't take it out. Since then I have had no issues with it at all. No scars, no pain, and don't even notice it's there.

I love the look of it, and so does my fiance, especially in summer!

oh I want one SO bad, but I'm so afraid of the pain!!

I can deal with the pain during, cuz it's gotta be pretty fast, but it's the pain AFTER I'm worried about.

What would you equate the pain with? What feels similar to the pain after?

Oh well, until I get a nice belly I have time to get over my fear :o

I don't know what I'd equate the pain with...it hurts a lot more than getting your ears pierced though!

I found that putting in a stud with a thinner post, helped it settle down and heal more quickly, than leaving the one they pierced it with in. It had a thicker post, and my belly just didn't seem to heal. But when I swicthed to a thinner one, it healed pretty fast.

I was surfing and doing all sorts of stuff with it in...no worries. Don't take it out too soon though..because it will be hard to get back in...and will heal up really quickly.

Got be careful of dangly ones too...they can get caught on things.

I'm 18 and i've had my bell button pierced since i was 14.

To me, I was in the same situation you were, i was scared of the pain but i went with a friend and she got it done before me and said it really didn't hurt...so i got up on the chair and go readdy and i was sooo scared but i think i was over doing myself because it really didn't hurt. to me it was like a little pinch.

it could depend on who pierces it and what method and how gentle they are.

and for rubbing against things, i hardly even notice it's there...i wear really low cut pants anyways though, that's just my style.....i can play with it now and pull on it and stuff and really isn't painful.... Good Luck!! I think you'll do good! ;)

 What state do you live in?! Here in MD you have to be 18 or 16 w/a parent present and signing for you to get pierced. I would NEVER trust a place that pierces or tattoos underage people. If they are cutting corners there- where else are they ignoring the law? Sterilization, certification, etc... VERY SCARY!!!

where I come from tatoos are more of a cultural expression as well as individual. I have one of my *aumakua* which is our family guardian.

Many families here also have family tatoos, where the whole family (when they are legal) have the same kind of designs.

Why don't you take your fingernails, and pinch your belly button where the peircing would go as hard as you can. Did that hurt? Well, it didn't hurt me, and honestly, getting a needle stuck through didn't hurt as bad as pinching it

SO, if you can close your eyes, and RELAX...RELAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAX, you will be fine. If you sit there all tense, though, it might hurt....heck, if you're tense, it'll freak you out when the piercer touches you.

Anyhoo, I didn't have any pain cleaning it....you don't even feel it. Unless it gets infected, then it gets sore.

I hear tongue peircings are the most painful :(

Actually- my ex worked for a piercer before joining the Army and you would not believe some of the things people pierce (besides the obviously painful nipple/genitalia) Ever see someone w/the nape of their neck pierced? How about the bridge of their nose?My eyes water just imagining that one but people do it.

...but if it hurts you, you've just suffered needlessly

everyone i've talked to says that it feels weird, cool even, but it doesn't hurt. i find this so incredibly hard to believe that i ask everyone who i see has a pierced tongue. i have never been told that it hurt.

surface piercings...ouch. some places won't do them because they don't always heal very well and if your body 'rejects' them, pushes out the piercing, (this can happen with your belly button piercing too, btw) then it leaves a pretty nasty scar.

Fayebelle, i live in NC and you only have to have your parents signature and there with you at the time...the place i went does not do that under age and they are very sterile and very good people....by the way.....belly button piercings now are like ear piercings they are so common!

to me when i got my tounge pierced my older sister went and signed for me acting as if she was my mom and to me it didn't hurt right then but it's really sore after the fact...which to me i'd rather it hurt for a while afterward than right then...i couldn't imagine something going hrough my tounge without any numbness!

That's cool- I just think it's important to check your local codes on that.

Body piercing may be more common but it can still be very dangerous if done wrong or w/dirty equipment.

Hold On-

I agree -my tongue was more weird than painful. Luckily it didn't swell either so I never had that pain but I had to learn how to eat peas w/out biting the ball. I did take it out though b/c they are VERY bad for your teeth.

Most bodies do reject surface piercings so they have to put in retainers to stretch the area if you want the piercing to last. That's awfully high maintanence and painful for my taste.

Well I got my belly pierced when i was 18 and i thought it was gonna hurt real bad but what they do is they stand you up and mark where you are gonna get pierced and clamp it so there isn't much blood flow then they lay you down flat and you cant see when they do it then they have all the clean supplies and stick the needle through and them put the belly ring in and it goes in less than a minute and it hurts but it isn't to bad. I mean you feel it but bite your lip or have a friend go with you and hold their hand. Since i am from Hawaii they tell us that after we get it pierced like 2 weeks to go to the beach cause it helps to heal the piercing but not to go to beaches where it has lots of people. when i got mine done i used a q tip and bactine to clean it 3 times a day for about 1 month then i switched to salt water and that works really good but for the first month you should use bactine cause it is a wound but after about a month the salt water cleans the jewelry and everything. I clean my jewelry in salt water too and it doesn't hurt at all. it will puss for a little bit but it is all bare-able. I would rather get my belly pierced like 15 times again than to get cramps. I also have my nose and am getting my tongue in a few weeks. I think salt water is the hidden Hawaiian secret. Don't be scared oh yeah for like the first week you cant really sleep on your stomach and it hurts if you get up to fast cause your not used to it. I say get it pierced don't be scared and keep it clean. Make sure you go to a good place too. Take your man with you.

Piercing was a liberating thing for me. I have six piercings. For me, I find that breathing through it helps tremendously, but I have a high pain threshold, and I simply do not feel pain the same way others do.

If I had a cute tummy, I would pierce my belly button in a heart beat.

Hm, a bee sting? Salt on a cut? This only lasts a couple of days. I was able to sleep on my stomach again within the first week. :bunny:

I  my piercings. Wouldn't take them out for anything.

Alrighty, where shall I begin? I swore to myself I'd never reply to one of these forum things but I just couldn't get over how many people ask about the pain factor when getting their belly buttons' pierced.

You can't work yourself up about it (although sometimes it's impossible). Yes, it's natural to ask people who have it done but come on, once you've heard the " it's just a pinch '', don't you think you should just get over yourself? I do apoligize, that came out a wee bit nasty but the way I see it, If piercing your belly button is something you really want to do, then just do it. Go into the shop and just do it ! The one thing that really inspired me was the jewelry I had picked out. I found an incredibly cute lady bug barbell with blue jewels on it's back. Having some sort of jewelry to inspire me definately made it alot easier.

Just look at it in the long run, do you want it done or not? forget about the pain....it's not all it's cracked up to be......after all.....'it's just a pinch'

I got mine done. My boyfriend went with me. It did not hurt that bad at all. The ear hurt more that the belly did. Mine did not get infected or anything. What I did for the first 2 weeks is take 2 showers a day. One in the morning and one at night. I cleaned with with Dial antibacterial gel soap and put the disinfection stuff they recommend on it. I am in my third month and it is healing very well. No problem . It does take a long time to heal though so be prepared for that. I cant change mine out until this month but I am going to give mine one more month to get right complete. That is just me though

I've had mine pierced for about 2 years, and I love it!

It didn't really hurt, was a quick "pinch" and that was about it. I didn't get any infection (cleaned it twice a day with antibacterial soap) it was sore for the first few weeks to sleep on my stomach, but that was about it.

I've also got a tattoo on the small of my back.. again not horrible.. it felt more like a sunburn.

I have no regrets on either one;)

I got my belly button pierced a week ago today. They gave me a salt water rinse to use twice a day and Dial Anti Bacterial soap also twice a day.

I dont use the sea salt though; I have just been using the dial soap twice a day...but around both holes it's really red and scabby and dry looking; I think it's getting infected..what should I do? Should I start to use the salt stuff; but won't that dry it out even more? Maybe it's not infected; it's just healing???

I had a guy walk in yesterday, he had an earing pearced right on his lower eyelid..... now talk about sore....yikes..... I'm too chicken to pierce anything besides my ears..........so I will live precariously through the lives of others :)
